Take a needle scaler to that rear axle and scale away and see whats left when rust stops falling off it. I live in the rust belt and sometimes pics make the scale and caked on goo look worse then it is. Though I must admit, your pic looks pretty bad. The last pic you posted of the front half...
I did this cleaning method on the block as well. I also used a long pipe cleaner looking bristle brush inside the crank holes and lots of black carbon and residue came out. On my block deck service the holes between the bores were so clogged with OEM gasket material I had to use a drill bit to...
Cool man, thats great stuff! So cool what your doing with this cruiser and the memories it will hold for your family and kids. I am in the middle of my first engine pull and complete overhaul in my 95 FZJ80 and at first it seems like a huge task but once you get rolling its not too bad. Take...
I've worked my way thru this problem and learned some along the way too. First I replaced the ignition switch with an OEM part. This cured my radio, antenna and mirrors not working when the truck was running and now the key buzzes properly when inserted into the ignition.
Then I replaced the...
Hi All.... so last week my LC would not shut off. After removing starter and ignition switch both appeared to have continuity issues so today I replaced both with new OEM parts. I reconnected battery and the EFI relay still clicks when reinstalled and the red discharge light is still on above...
Got the starter off finally....theres no numbers or tags or anything on the starter body. Anyway to tell if this is a 2.2KV starter?? I am just wondering if it would be worth rebuilding and eating the $30 core charge and keeping it for a spare. Thanks for any help.
So I replaced the relay and have the ignition switch completely out of the car and the red discharge light is still on and the relay is still energized?? I have the FSM EWD book and am trying to make sense of whats powering the EFI relay but I'm striking out so far. Any help or direction...
Did a little more searching and learned how to use my multimeter. The LC is already making me a better mechanic! LOL Tested the relay and continuity between 1 and 3 is good. However when I plug the 7.5AMP charge fuse and the relay in the red discharge light comes back on. I also tested the...
Hi All....looking for some help with an ignition issue (I think) that popped up a couple days ago. Quick background on my LC. Its a '94 that has sat for 4.5 years up until I bought it a few months ago. Been getting it road ready and have been driving it for about 1000 miles since I bought it...
Got some miles on my LC in the last month. Ended up doing a complete new exhaust with OEM O2 sensors from the manifolds back. Runs like a swiss watch now. Did an oil and filter change this weekend along with a new air filter.
Also cleaned out a huge mouse nest in the blower motor so blower...
when bleeding the brakes make sure to bleed the LSPV valve back by the drivers side back wheel after bleeding each caliper. The bleeder is on the inside of the valve and you have to stick your head way in there to see it. My brakes did the same thing until I followed the FSM bleeding procedure...
Sorry bigfj62, you are correct of course. I confused myself for a minute. I had a 85 Fj60 that I was wanting to SOA but I sold it as I was wanting some of the creature comforts of the 80 series. Now I want a FJ62 though to add to the mix. I love the FJ60 series big body. Geez, I'm getting old.
Good point scrowley, I forgot to add that. One other thing dont sand the edges too much of your panels.....you can burn thru real quick. dont ask me how I know.... LOL
When sanding on the hood keep it propped up so you dont sand thru the top of the front fenders also!
Thanks Guys.....these LC's are an addiction! I love reading other guys build threads. The lengths people go to rebuilding and customizing their LC's is impressive for sure. Someday I'd love to do a SOA and really bring out the offroad capabilities of the LC but for now I'll just focus on...
Hi All.... I purchased a 1994 FZJ80 back in the end of November. Its been sitting for about 4 years though the previous owner did start it up and move it around once a month or so. He started to gather parts to fix it up and then a tree branch fell on the hood as it sat behind his Dads garage...
Hi, nothing hit the window. The LC had been in the garage for a couple days so everything was warm and at equal temps. No cold air at all. Yes, keys were in it in the off position and nothing else was on, all doors were closed. Three things I am going to do moving forward, one investigate...
Thanks everybody for the replies and the in depth explanation Scottsire. I knew there was a reason, I just didnt know it. Now I do and so does my wallet! I'll have to investigate further the auto shutoff. I am still learning this truck and trying to figure out its history little by little...
