i have been hunting on this for a while too, i pulled my front driveshaft and had no change, only hear it on deceleration, toyota dealer said it was in the diff. haven't got into it yet. if only i had hubs! i could unlock and rule it out.
i'm currently 2wd and have no difference in the sound. the hubs would allow me to rule out the diff, or so i'm hoping. thanks. and it was camelback toyota, thru murph.
hello all, ineed to go through my front end on my 96 fzj, the dealer told me that my dragging noise is from the front diff, 150k miles, and was wondering how difficult it is in comparison to an fj60 front end rebuild? and what do you think of putting on some locking hubs? i have a pair of warns...
pulled the front driveshaft, the noise is still there in the axle, but the clunk when i shift from reverse to drive is gone. added more grease to the knuckles, wasn't low, but didn't make a difference. the ujoints feel ok, but after 150k is it time to replace?

hello all, my 96 will not let me program my new remote, bought from toyota. the light on the dash will not light up for the life of me. i've followed all the instructions to no avail. my old fob will not unlock or lock the doors either. the dealer told me they couldn't get it to go into program...
hello all, new to me 96 fzj with 150k, has a slight grinding, almost drag sound coming from the front end. only noticeable on deceleration or coast, brakes look fine, just serviced before i purchased. anybody have any experience with this? or is this just what full time 4wd sounds like? thanks...
just had my new to me 96 fzj detailed today. while driving it home the horn kicks on and won't go off. i pulled the fuse but can still hear a whistling/screeching noise from the engine area. the carpets did get shampooed, could it have gotten the alarm wet? i tried to put it into valet but the...
update: i had to run a hole saw to grab the boot and rip it free. i wonder how long ago it broke off, and was just ignored by the po's service guy. thanks for your help.
