Since I'm sure it's never been discussed,

hey now, what the hell's wrong with black? :flipoff2: seriously i was just getting ready to give mine a new color and black was cheap and easy, plus pinstripes show up so much better on glass black...no downsides at all!

Since I'm sure it's never been discussed,

I would say the 92 because of course, you never really have to worry about HG issues, no ABS system, A440 tranny, very easy to de-smog, super simple and "dumb" engine (no OBD) and on a long downhill with a good tailwind you can gather speed fairly quickly. in fact it usually only takes me about...

92 passenger front caliper locking up...i'm at my wits end

to everyone who contributed ideas, thank you! the solution ended up being very simple and the gremlin turned out to be one of my own making. i made a very noob mistake by clamping off the soft line a few months back on install so it wouldn't leak so much fluid, well that shouldn't ever be...

92 passenger front caliper locking up...i'm at my wits end

I have no problem going OEM as the budget allows but these guys at Hundley Hydraulics are the real deal. They custom build to virtually the same specs as OEM, right down to supplying the copper washers and the locator pin for the banjo fitting. This is what fits the budget right now, but I do...

92 passenger front caliper locking up...i'm at my wits end

Thanks for replying Jon. I'll just start by replacing that soft line then. OEM lines from my local Toyota house are 56 bucks each so I'm going to get a local hydraulics house to build me one...14 bucks, pretty big difference And more importantly, it'll be a valuable lesson learned in not...

92 passenger front caliper locking up...i'm at my wits end

got another quick question before i replace my drive side caliper and all the hard lines on the axle. when i replaced my passenger side axle to caliper soft brake line, i clamped it off with a pair of vicegrips to prevent brake fluid bleedout. i remembered doing that on my way home yesterday...

92 passenger front caliper locking up...i'm at my wits end

Agreed. Was hoping for some less likely but possible solutions. Will try what's been suggested thus far...still open for any more suggestions no matter how outlandish they may seem

92 passenger front caliper locking up...i'm at my wits end

it's worth a shot at this point. I'll replace the hard lines too at the same time if they aren't too crazy expensive.

92 passenger front caliper locking up...i'm at my wits end

I didn't consider that possibility, and now that you mention it, it makes perfect sense. I replaced the right caliper but not the left one. will replace the left asap and get back to the thread with the results. the master cyl was replaced by PO before I bought it, and the brakes were...

92 passenger front caliper locking up...i'm at my wits end

Hey Guys, (and Gals) I'm at my wits end, :bang: I've searched and searched and troubleshot everything I can think of and I still can't track down what's causing my front right caliper to lock up at slow speed stops. here's the skinny... it never locks up at speed never locks up when...

    Do I want an 80 series ?

easily the 92, an obvious answer for special needs, such as never worrying about a blown head gasket. very true it's not as fast as the 4.5 fzj but the 3FE is a beast in the woods, a true tractor engine mated to a bus tranny. I don't worry about getting anywhere at 80mph, 70 is plenty for me...

    Thrust Washer importance level

sometimes when i walk in there i feel like i'm :bang: . wow, that's a pretty dang steep markup!

    Thrust Washer importance level

well i was going to purchase the washer from my local toyota dealer in Burleson, TX but when i discovered they wanted $45 PER WASHER, well i found a shop called Low Range Offroad, 10 bucks per washer, two axle nuts, and a locking washer, so i got two kits. might as well have an extra on hand, right?

    Thrust Washer importance level

yes the one thrust washer i did have on my passenger side was grooved on both sides, now that i think about it. i am getting a couple of them so that i can replace the grooved one next time...perhaps when i rebuild the knuckles, one day

    Thrust Washer importance level

it is definitely keyed to the hub spindle and yep, there's no way I'm going to assemble it without that washer. only reason i called it a thrust washer is from the FAQ section under hub and knuckle rebuild

    Thrust Washer importance level

Yep, same here, well as far as fixing up all the PO non-maintenance + various repairs and performance enhancements for the 3FE:flipoff2:, yeah right:smokin:. It just takes me a long time to do things cause I have to plan for them, mine is my DD and every project i do, i have to complete within a...

    Thrust Washer importance level

yep, the PO had left the inner nut against the bearing, which does explain the extra stress marks on the outer steering knuckle shaft that the bearings ride on. i'm guessing the hub nuts couldn't fully seat against the bearing due to extra space created by the missing thrust washer. guess it's...

    Thrust Washer importance level

Well, this may seem like a stupid question to many and I have a good idea as to the correct answer but I guess I'm just looking for some general agreement or disagreement with my thoughts. I'm putting my drivers side hub back together after new bearings, new ceramic pads and freshly resurfaced...

    Replacing rotors/pads...any seals need replacing?

what did you mean by the "...bearings would not hurt anything..."? am i correct to assume that the hub seal has to be changed if i'm changing out the bearings?
