pulled it apart. Oil was Mobil 1 75/90 LS Synthetic.
A big mound of black "metallic" goo stuck to the magnet.
Drained (most of) the fluid through a paper towel and quite a bit more of the goo was in the oil, as well as in the housing.
No abnormal wear on the shaft splines.
No abnormal wear...
new (different) pinion flange. Crush spacer the first time.
would have to swap the pumpkins. the housing is welded upon quite heavily. Will snap some pics when I can pull it apart. Hopefully this week one evening.
96-97 fzj80 open rear diff. (not on an 80 though)
Before I ever drove it,
Had diff rebuilt by shop 1, they screwed up the crush sleeve and basically trashed the gears. became noisey really fast. more of a whine then became a rattle. gears were worn to a knife edge.
approx 250 miles later
had...
Can you run a rear 8" auburn in the front of an 80? (i know it bolts in, but will it work, or do you have to swap the side gears like in a truetrack, or is it a complete no go?)
Do you have to re-shim when replacing pinion bearings? (OEM toyota ones with a new crush sleeve)
maybe a dumb question but i have never dealt with toy diffs before...
pinion bearings are kinda wobbly. it looks like the r&p has some wear from it. not bad, but i dont want to rebuild it with a bad gearset...
supposedly had less than 80k on it before, so i dont know...
how much you think you want for that open third?
I have seen a few rear built diffs, but none with OEM 4.10's.
am I missing someone? I am currently open, but a rear e-ocked third new might be an option unless there are more choices....
I fried the rear (i think the pinion bearings gernaded) and really dont trust rebuilding it with the RP...
shouldnt the PCV vent be pre supercharger on the vacuum side of the intake air track? otherwise it is seeing positive pressure and not venting like it should right?
thanks for the replies. got the info from Jacque at Toy of Dallas. Lightning fast too.... Kinda in a bind, but mainly because of poor planning on my part... and apparently according to toy FW, land cruisers between 94-97 are completely different looking trucks.....
Thanks kurt, will keep you in...
