They are chrome plated plastic. I used fine steel wool very lightly to clean them. Also put masking tape around the letters so you don't damage the surrounding areas.
They are tinted, I don't know if it is privacy, but they are dark. These are complete, seals, frame, glass the whole monty. I'm in Sparks if you're interested.
When mine broke I went to the dealer and ordered it. They asked for the VIN and I wondered what they need that for to order a door handle. When I picked it up it was already painted body color. It makes the rest of the paint on the truck look even crappier !
That is part of an old Prestone antifreeze coolant flush kit, popular in the 70s and 80s. That is for hooking up a garden hose to and using the water pressure to flush the coolant system.

I have a Prinsu rack as well. I agree with you on the j hooks, However I made them work and have had no trouble with them holding the rack to the gutter. I am impressed with the Bowfin latches though. Do you think they could be swapped out if I was to get a set from Bowfin?
I am running 35's on my 80 and will replace them when the time comes. Good road manners, off road they work good in sand, mud, and snow. Admittedly they were on the truck when purchased, but I like them and recommend them.
