I have this 1994 HDJ80, LH drive 24V start, batteries about 4 years old.
I changed alternator recently and checked charging voltages. Batteries are charged, headlights on.
At 1500 RPM alternator output is 14.V measured on alternator, which is fine. But charging voltage across battery poles is a...
When your cruiser approaches 30 years there will surely be rust behind the window weather strips. If there is no visible rust yet, it is only a matter of time before it creeps out. Here is a writeup/video I made when I fixed my windscreen. Read here: Inditravel.org
No rust there now I hope. Cant see that without taking out the dash. It is to prevent rust in case of water intrusion.
And I'm lucky to not have any sun roof.
I have a 1994 80 which I have treated underbody with Fluid Film the 12 years I have owned it. And I have very little rust despite salty winter roads.
Also internal rocker panel I treat every 3 years. It is easily accessible trough 3 big holes.
But what about inside door pillars?
It is not...
Thanks. I have now found 3 drain points. They were completely clogged, but I used a plastic strips to open. Altogether 2-3 liters water came out. I have not used the car much this winter and it has rained a lot.
I have read a few posts on this topic. Still...
My 1994 do not have any sun roof. On passenger side floor was wet and rocker panel was full of water.
I am aware the windscreen is an entry point for water, but is there any other place this can enter the car? Like e.g. ventilation/heater (It is...

I had the caster measured by a Toyota workshop:
Before grinding of holes: -0,34 and -0,27 degrees (This is with OME correction bushings)
After: +2,20 and +2,26 degrees.
So it changed the caster 2,5 degrees. The 2 degrees I mentioned in the post was based on calculation.
I bought a lifted 80 with 2" OME and with OME caster correction bushes.
The car was pretty wiggly on the road so I checked the caster angle.
It was minus 0.5 degrees. Spec is plus 2-4 degrees. So pretty much out of spec.
2" elevation gives change of caster - 3.4 degrees.
Caster correction...
I usually weld on a nut on the broken bolt. Using high current this heats the bolt to red, and then I use the nut to unscrew it. Never fails, even if there is literally no threads protruding. The tool looks good though, even if there is a chance the bolt will snap again.
I have a HDJ80 with a clutch that started to make a creaking sound around Christmas time. The sound is only there the first half minute after a cold start, and only when the clutch is not depressed. As soon as I press the clutch the sound disappears. The engine need to run at some speed.

Here is my DIY bumper. The idea behind the design is to leave the traverse as-is, and just add new side-bumpers. They are made of off a the shelf steel U-profile and flat steel. The benefits are: easy to build and fit, and low weight. Total weight a bit over 20 kilos. And no space is taken...
I had to pull out the front diff carrier and noticed that the outer wheel bearing seems to have been rotating. It was a grove in the washer, and the spindle was brownish indicating heating I suppose.
When I last had the hub off I used 12 Nm / 9 ft-lb torque on the inner nut. That gives me a...
Its definitely an ARB in there. Fitted by PO, but I have the invoice. I sent the photo to ARB, and they said it was none of their parts. Anyway, to revile the mystery I will pull the 3d this weekend. Must be some leftover from PO. I have done a couple of knuckle rebuilds (last time in Sahara)...
No, I have opened it yet. Found a diagram of the ARB, but cant see anything like it there. A mystery. I have to "pull the 3d member" as said here. By the way, funny expression. I had to look it up. Where does it come from.
Yea, i suppose I must open it. I have looked at parts diagrams of the diff, and there is nothing like this in it. But I haven't found any decent ARB diagram on the net. I do not think it has had factory lockers.
