I made some custom Snorkel Grill

Ooh! I like the TEQ one. I don't need it. But I really NEED that! I'm sure you all know exactly what I mean ;)

    Interior axe/shovel etc storage?

The threaded holes for the 3rd row grab handles are present in the HDJ81. The mounts for the seats and upper seatbelt mounts are not.

Builds Mail Order Ride - My HDJ81

My IP was pretty noisy, and quietened down considerably when I added a pusher pump back near the tank. I put in a Walbro. My truck is pretty well twin to yours and I consider it a good performer. I'm running 15psi boost, I turned the star wheel thingy under the IP diaphragm back a couple...

Where have all the rear bumper fabricators gone!?

Since I was contacted by the OP a week or so ago, and have been mentioned in this thread I though I would chime in and offer my perspective. I dropped bumper production from my lineup for a couple different reasons. I downsized my shop in December because of a need to simplify my life. I...

    Builds NLScooby's 1991 HDJ81 - a mild build

Big difference was this time my wife was asking when I was going to get going on the mods to the new truck. I'm a lucky man indeed!

    Builds NLScooby's 1991 HDJ81 - a mild build

Great progress. I love in your sig line "stock for a few weeks..." My first one evolved very gradually. The current rig (imported in May) was on the continent for all of 3 days before I tore into it with 4" lift, 35s, 3" exhaust... And its not over yet! The slow windows are often the window...

    Builds NLScooby's 1991 HDJ81 - a mild build

Nice progress so far. As Crab Shack mentioned, make sure to do the BEBs. Its not a bad job, the worst part is getting the oil pan off. One of those bent putty knives works pretty well for getting through the pan seal (its grey FIPG'd on). Also a good recommendation on the big brake upgrade...

    Sleeping in the cruiser

I sometimes sleep in the back of the cruiser on a drawer setup that I built to be just a bit taller than the wheel wells. Something just tall enough to fit the shallow Rubbermaid type tubs underneath. Mine was roughly the same height as the 2nd row seats folded (not tumbled forwards), so I put...

Builds Rig of the Fortnight Cruisin'

Onward and upward though. Here's a shot of the new rig as she sits right now. Off to a good start, and plenty more mods to come!

Builds Rig of the Fortnight Cruisin'

Its messy. Dude was okay, but he was an old guy driving with no licence, no plates, no insurance... Not good. His old F250 was about a foot shorter on the front end. Fixed it...

Builds Rig of the Fortnight Cruisin'

Final update to this thread On December 1, 2015 I was in a very serious accident in this truck. I was t-boned by an F250 that ran a stop sign at 50mph. The impact sent me though a concrete barricade, and the truck finally came to rest upside down in a deep ditch. The fact that I was driving...

Drive shafts with 4" Ironman lift

***Aha! I figured out why I'm at half your number... I was basing that angle on using the rear hole as the axis, not the centreline of the axle which would give double the number. It appears we're on the same page. For sure though the Ironman plates rotate the axle too much for a 4" lift.

Drive shafts with 4" Ironman lift

Without some castor correction the pinion would be high, and you would have no correction for the steering and the truck would be all over the road.

Drive shafts with 4" Ironman lift

I've installed several Ironman 4" kits, and I've found that the castor plates they supply with the 4" lift provide too much correction. They are 5deg. The Slee or Metal Tech plates (or the ones I have made) are better with a 4" lift, they're all around 3.25deg - 3.5deg I believe. Ironman uses...

    De-lifting?

This will seem self-serving as I'm an Ironman dealer, but you'd likely buy from someone closer to you so I won't benefit, so consider this unbiased... Have you considered Ironman? For a heavy truck I've installed a few of the 2" kits with the "C" coils p/n TOY024C and TOY025C. They can handle...

    HDJ81V - Jap import

Nice looking rig! The 80 Series have very large wheel wells, so the tires you're considering will fit fine. If they rub at all it won't be much. With the 2-3" lift they'll be just perfect :)

Another 80 bites the dust. RIP Truck Norris

You are going to have to convince them that lockers are desirable, and make a real difference to the value of the vehicle. Sounds like you're ready to play hardball, so good luck! When you are looking for a replacement rig, keep in mind that most of the unlocked trucks still have the wiring...

Almost tucked in 35s... 80 series need feedback.

I'm in agreement with GoFast. Get rid of the 1" spacers and you'll have some minor frame and inner fender rubbing at the inside of the tire. Nothing will get damaged. Getting tires into the flares is a quick way to a de-flared rig. Looking at your pics, where the tire is really close...

Builds Rig of the Fortnight Cruisin'

The rig looks a bit different now, with the current mods on it. I'm at 4" Ironman Comp lift, and 35s, as well as snorkel, and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting at the moment. Its been a while since updating this thread for sure!!!

Hey Grumpy, As an update to the rig, I ran the exhaust for about 5 years till it rusted away, and have recently gone full stainless. I used 304ss, with a Magnaflow straight through muffler. On a customer's truck I tried joining the pipes with stainless clamps that wrap the pipes at a...
