Do You Use the Original Jack?

I have found the Toyota mechanical bottle jacks from any year/model to be super handy over the years. They are a great go-to for roadside and trailside repairs. Extra ones from parts rigs have found their way into my trailer/towing tool bag and most of my vehicles. There's not really anything...

    6.0LS2 destroys 1FZFE

We ended up chopping off the stock frame mounts and fabbing up some new ones for our 6.0 swap. The engine side is a universal style mount for the LS that's available from any number of speed shops. That's not much help for someone running the stock 1FZ mount. Did you contact Marks...

    Inner axle seal

Retail parts sales are better left to guys like Beno, but I do have couple of OEM Toyota axle seals on the shelf and would be happy to bail out a fellow Cruiserhead. If you decide to crack into the knuckle before your trip, give me a call so I can get it in the mail ASAP. Nathan w/ Forge...

    Builds A 1994 80 Series gets an LQ9 GM V8

Thanks for the kind words. We had not come across those before. It looks like they are designed around using the stock transmission. One of my first thoughts is that they would make the exhaust trickier, but I've never seen them in person, let alone in a truck, so who knows. Hopefully...

    Builds A 1994 80 Series gets an LQ9 GM V8

Long before the LQ9 swap started, the 1FZ that it replaced, went into another 80. It's a long rambling story that started with a supercharged OBDI 80 that ended up with that OBDI engine being "converted" to OBDII and stuffed into a later 80 that didn't have an engine.

You can get it in straight 72" sections from most parts suppliers.

We offer covert engine sabotage for a very competitive price. The gears in this truck are stock and it's running 33's. It feels like the sweet spot for all around use would be 35's and stock gears, but this particular customer does lots of towing and has no desire or need for 35's, so this...

Thanks! The nicest thing about this truck isn't wide open throttle. Don't get me wrong, flooring it is cool, but it's the every day driving that is so nice.

We did a tow test with it just the other day. It was around 6,500 lbs with the trailer and buggy. The brakes were the limiting factor for sure, but it has some sticky pads and slotted rotors, and the trailer brakes work well. It pulls REALLY well. Accelerating up hills was not a problem.

One nice aspect of the swap was that it made the cabin quieter. Just about any 80 I've come across that had something other than Bosal(aftermarket stock style replacement) or Toyota exhaust had some pretty serious resonance inside. When this truck was running a performance stainless exhaust...

We did. We were not able to shoot video to the extent that I was hoping, but we'll have the truck from time to time in the future, and I hope to be able to do something a little more complete and professional. Here's a brief video of the exhaust note.

We didn't, which is a real bummer. We ended up spending WAY more time than expected fixing other non-swap aspects of the truck. The truck had sat for a couple of years and needed a lot of little things. It's not much of a consolation, but the video wouldn't have been that gripping. Although...

Thanks! It does take time to do the pictures for sure. For just about all of our customers, we set up a google drive and upload photos regularly. That way, there is never a question of "What did you do on my truck today?" Also, a shared drive is great, because the customer could do their own...

The fans kick on at 205* and off at 200*, so that's where it sits most of the time. The warmest it got running through the mountains in WV was 208*.

We'd really like to(I can't really think of an event that I wouldn't want to attend...), but we're at the limit of what events we can go to and still keep our shop open and our marriages intact. We've got the Overland Expo, Appalachian Rendezvous and Fall Crawl coming up fast. We cashed in...

The radiator we used isn't 80-specific and you have to modify quite a few things to use it. I also think that the radiator hoses would be different on your 5.3. It's sortof like the "what manifolds fit" question from earlier in the thread. If you're using a slightly different engine with...
