If you know the oil is not engine oil than what kind of oil is it? The rig has only 4 or 5 possible types of oil in it, 1. engine oil, 2. power steering oil, 3. gear oil, 4. intake oil in the k&n filter, 5. automatic transmission fluid (if it has an auto).
Brake fluid is not an oil.

What "useless manual" are you working from. I have a 1987 BJ74 transfer case and I used the Toyota Service Manual to reference my tear down, I found it covered the process quite throughly.
The transfer case has internal bolts holding the back case of the transfer assembly to the transmission...
The booster can be leaking when your foot is off the pedal, as soon as you depress the pedal and hold it for 2 seconds the leak can quit or leak less and allow the vacuum to build up making the pedal feel normal, if you pump the pedal several times you can use up the built up vacuum making your...
Great write up, I read the rest at the link concerning assembly.
You stated the shim stack was 2.9mm and you sort the stack 2/3 top 1/3 bottom and that 2.9 was not enough to worry about, I was wondering how you came to that conclusion and if the shim stack was greater than your concern (what...
I have done what you are contemplating. The frame is probably gone from rust. If the back frame was bad enough to need rebuilding it is a good bet the rest of the frame is rusted from the inside out.
If you purchase it and you do a frame off purchase a new frame (new to your rig) get a good one...
This subject has been discussed many times, you will find people have opinions about both pre and post turbo. The EGT gauge should be pre turbo to get an accurate reading (why would you want an inaccurate reading?).
This is from Banks about this subject (been posted before).

Go to a muffler shop have a 2 1/2 inch exhaust system with a high flow muffler installed, it does wonders for the performance.
Make sure they install a vibrasorber between the turbo flange and the down pipe.
I installed a 13BT into my 1985 BJ70 and had the system described installed, love it...
While the torque value on the pinion nut is important, the critical setting related to the nut torque is the rolling resistance of the pinion shaft bearings. the pinion nut should be torqued to produce a rolling resistance of somewhere between 6-10 inch pounds (used bearings, new bearings are...
Since the oil is located in the front of the pan and oil migrates front to rear it looks like your leak is coming from the front of the engine, I would look at the front main seal, the pan seal, or the front timing gear cover. I believe you can change out the front seal by pulling the crank...
In my original post I included the part # from TDY and other sites, the reason I posted the question is the part is no longer available, I contacted Dave Stedman and was informed they were out of production, I was hoping someone on MUD had already solved the problem, that is why I asked.
Here's...
The clutch booster for the LHD BJ70 is no longer available, does anyone have a source for one? Part #440-60040
Is there a booster from another model that will work?
Thank you
Jim
Some thoughts to consider.
The vacuum pot closes the shut off valve by having vacuum applied to it from the VSV valve when you turn the key off, the normal VSV is no power, vacuum passing thru to the pot. If the key is off and the motor dies the VSV is working (at least in this mode).
The rig...
The vacuum pot will not stay in the off position if the vacuum system has a leak, I would test the system for leaks, a good way to do it without a gauge or hand pump, use a clean hose and your mouth, hook up the clean hose to the pot and see if you can pull and hold vacuum same goes for all the...
The 13BT engine shuts off with a shutter in the intake via a vacuum pot, pulling the small rubber hose off of the pot will not kill the engine, the vacuum pot requires vacuum to pull the shutter closed, the default (hose off or low vacuum) is shutter open so the engine will run. If your vacuum...
