I can see the intercooler knocking a few lb's out for sure. It's possible that I have different internals in this turbo - different inducer/exducer trims but same housing, what did yours come off?
Well, I guess it's later now! Just got home from a 4116km trip. Shook a lot of things loose (including turbo bolts, hood bolts and wheel nuts!) truck was great, added a great awning, found some cool trails, drove on a beach, and got tons of pics and video. Will be making a trip video at some...
Drilled, slid, painted, welded, bolted... Done.
I like how the outer welds came out on this...
Started some preliminary work on a simple swing out "bumper". More on that later!
Back to some saving!
Last year I replaced the forward cross tube above the rear axle that holds the passenger side rear shock. Today I decided it was time to change the rear cross tube, BEFORE it breaks... I'm sure I could have lasted the summer, but now I don't have to think about it...
Well that was fun... New pyro seems to be working - average running through up/down hills was 350-400C (660-750F) - with a few of the longer hills seeing 450 - 475 (840-890F)... I don't think I'm going to mess with the fuel any more at this point until I've seen some longer hills.... Any...
Well didn't get much done yesterday (Canada day) as I was busy spraying kids with a fire hose on a Canada day plastic sheet water slide at the park, but did manage to sneak a bit in on Friday.
Got the thermostat changed, topped up the coolant to start. Man these thermostats must be made of...
Well, we made it out camping and back with no drama! (But I do think it's time to change the thermostat, had a few scary "temp gauge you'd better stop climbing" moments!)
So, now the funny story. Being that this was the first lengthy drive after the install, I was a bit paranoid...
Ok, went for another spin with the "revised" hoses and 1 turn out on the fuel and things seemed a little better but hoses still get "smelly hot" so I decided to add another heat shield...
Made this one from some fresh aluminum!
2 bolts go through the heat shield into the intercooler mount...
Ok, so...
Temporary plug in the line:
Looped the line on the firewall:
Installed a new main line with no T fitting in it, way better clearance with this one:
Made a few more heat shields with some thin aluminum scrap (to help reduce the heat getting to the fuel lines)
Then...
Cool, actually linked in that thread but it did get me there - thanks. I also posted on the TLCA Facebook group and eventually got the "High altitude compensator" answer as well.
Good to know - this truck came from out west so makes sense in the mountains.
Currently fighting coolant...
Ummmmmmmm....
So I went for a quick jaunt tonight after hooking power to the boost and pyro, to see where things are. Didn't push it at all as I was barely getting up to temp, and you know, it's a pretty fresh install so I'd rather not go catastrophic on the first run.
The good news, the...
Got my RGB LED lights rigged up as well. Blue and green and white look the best. Unfortunately the adhesive tape sucks - so I'll have to pull it all apart and silicone it on.
Thanks, still a bunch of small things to do, need to get the snorkel plumbed, turn up the fuel, install boost and pyro gauges.... Never ends!
But first - hopefully - if it's not raining tonight we are going camping in the back yard!!
Woohoo! Back from paint today! Unloaded and got the signals and marker lights on, then the lower fenders. Only takes 9 extensions to reach the rear 3 bolts ;cD
Anyway - here are some pics.
(And FYI, I HIGHLY reccomend the $14 marker lights from Rock Auto. Absolute perfect fit. )
Loaded it up yesterday and took it to work with me. Unloaded it at lunch and drove it to the paint shop (yeah, no fenders on!)
Hopefully picking it up Thursday...
Thanks! I'm by no means pro quality, but I have achieved what I set out to do so far.
Talked with the paint shop today, he said to drop it off Monday, so one last push to get little bits done and then load it up on the weekend... Hopefully by this time next week I'll be close to a painted truck!
Little bit more progress. Hood scoop is starting to look like it belongs. Hood still needs more prep work though.
Also cleared off the nasty rust on the top sides of the fender wells, treated the remaining spots with a rust converter, and then hand applied and hand textured my own secret...
