For what it's worth, on my last trip ten days ago over Raton Pass into Colorado the southern Sangres above timberline had maybe 10% snow cover.
Like I said, for what it's worth.
Classic Cruisers in (what used to be Salida CO) now in Poncha Springs CO. Repaired the frame on my Fj60 . Cut out the crud and added "fish plates".
I'm happy with the results.
No vapor lock due to ambient temp or some change to the fuel system?
At the SAS-2 is was hot. Lot of folks with vapor lock trouble. My main problem turned out to be the charcoal canister.
Is the June 20 Medano Pass to Great Sand Dunes run firming up?
May be able to join you guys even though we are now Colorado refugees living in New Mexico.
When planning a trip to this area it would be good to factor in your cruising range. This given the fact from the town of Platoro it is at least a 90 mile round trip and some hours to fuel up.
Have not noodled it yet but it is possible for an overnighter or longer it would be better to base...
I posted a thread with several photos on the main forum here: Platoro Colorado
That was my first trip to the southern San Juans. Had a ball and will go back for more exploration next season.
The area has the rep of being an "undiscovered jewel". I can vouch for the jewel part.
During the week of Aug 5 the IH8MUD Solid Axle Summit will be in Ouray with 75 Cruisers. Link up with them and you will have plenty of good company. They base out of the KOA in Ouray.
SAS has a thread on the main part of the website. You ought to check it out.
I need a set of (4) factory plain steel wheels for a '93 Dodge W250. These are 8 lug, 16"x6" (or 6.5"?). Would like the dog dish hub caps and trim rings as well.
Not interested in "will fit" wheels, just factory units.
The article states sodium chloride is "not as harmful to the environment" as magnesium chloride.
I'd bet the greenies have found a reason to hate mag chloride and that is a major factor in this change - after all, it is Colorado Seeing as how they hate automobiles anyway it's a twofer for...
I do not have personal experience with it but a lot of Land Rover owners swear by Waxoyl. And I have the impression Land Rovers are more prone to rust than Land Cruisers.

Many thanks for this.
However beware this from Bennett:
"The San Juan Mountains Wilderness Act does not close any designated off-highway vehicle trails."
It may be nothing but a reach-around. From Bennett that's what I would expect.
The feds have very specific definitions for things. So...
Mary and I enjoyed meeting a fine group of folks and a great (and long) day on the trails. Medano pass to Great Sand dunes is always a treat. The return trip via CR305 => Gardner Rd => Deer Peak Rd => Little Froze Rd was a real hoot. We were in the clouds, sleet and snow was accumulating...
