    GOT it !!! Got it finally! Thanks guys. Used a little more force (coaxed gently with rubber mallet) and broke thru the crud plug. Now off to the radiator shop.

    thanks! I just tried the wire, .... then moderately tried a nail and then a small screwdriver. Not pounding either one, just by hand trying to force it up there....nada. "Gently" tapping with a mallet next????????
