Simple!
Let more air out of your tires. If you didn't have any sidewall flex at 10psi, go down to 5. You aren't driving it down the highway you are driving it 20ft into the garage. Once it is inside close the door and air the tires back up. Its not a daily driver so its really no big deal...
I was quotes $5-7k for my 55. Which I thought was absolutely ridiculous. I didn't even want any body work, I told them just to sand it down, and spray it. Which is why I ended up spray painting mine....
Ryan
Don,
I have a 4.7L TRD Supercharged motor in my 55, I think it is really cool to have it all Toyota, but it isn't the "responsible" swap. The cost and work associated is multiples higher then just doing a GM swap. Really it depends on what you enjoy, if you enjoy working on you Cruiser it...
Just chose your trails wisely and you will be fine. There are lots of trails that will work for a stock rig, but you can quickly get in over your head.

One more option:

I would give this guy a call. This is a true 4" lift.
Ryan
Gerk,
Here you go!

looks like MtnSurfer has some springs that will get you 2-2.5" without shackles and 4" with shackles for $100.
Ryan
John,
I have had much better luck with these then the worm drive! They provide more clamping force, and don't mar up the hose as bad.

Ok, I went through all of my notes and none of the 2.5" kits look like they are being made anymore.
MAF
SOR
JT Outfitters
Ironman
Rough Country.......
SO I think your options are:
Add-a-leaf maybe 2"
Custom Springs anything 2-4" probably
Spring Over Axle 5-6" usually
Good luck, can't wait to...
I know exactly where you are coming from. I think that the 4" lift size is just what is throwing everyone off.
I think that you can still find some 2.5" lifts that would be just what you are looking for. Let me dig through my notes and see what I can find.
Well if you are sprung under, I am not sure how add a leafs are going to give you any additional height. Especially not 4" I could be wrong on this since I haven't done it, but if you do I can only imagine the ride would be painfully stiff!
Ryan
The 70 series springs will work, but you will have to move your spring hanger.
The only 4" bolt in solution, I know of is calling Alcan or Deaver and having them build you a custom leaf spring. Its really not as expensive as you would think. On par with ordering from SOR.
Ryan
Sorry Gerk,
I was rushed a little earlier.
So the 40 and 55 springs aren't swappable. Really the 55 spring is its own beast, there is very little compatibility with them and the other LC models. People are using the 70 series springs but they are expensive, since the 70 series never came to...
No they won't fit, the springs are different.
I would go down to the 55 section, lots of 55 guys down there that know their stuff. Guys are using 70 series springs for good lift and ride capacity.
Ryan
I have used both, my 55 has shafts from Jesse on it now, but there was some confusion because of the variety of parts on my truck. I think if you could look around and find a place locally it would cut down on some of the confusion and back and forth.
But you can't go wrong with Tom or Jesse...
I couldn't tell you now it has been years, but I think I started with 30 cans of green and 30 cans of white. I really had no idea what I was doing, but I did like 6 coats. The cans are bigger then normal spray cans. I still have some extra cans in the truck for touch up but I am sure they...
I painted my entire 55 with rattle cans from Tower Paints, a little expensive but good stuff. It still looks good after 3-4 years. It was my first time painting a truck and my prep sucked.
Ryan
The kit is solid, just be careful and check the 60 box when you get it. The $600 supposed rebuilt box I bought from them s*** the bed after 250 miles.
Ryan.
If you were going to do this, the only way I see it working is getting a wrecked Tundra. Pulling the body off, chopping the frame and adapting the FJ40 body to fit. And then doing a solid axle swap with a diamond housing. Lots and lots of work to get it right.
You can do both the 4.0L and...
