Here is what I posted on Jun 10, 2023:
I received the 33403-69135 gear. It is identical to the original 17 tooth gear, except the gear OD and tooth root is 0.090 inch larger in diameter.
I reduced the OD and cut the tooth root deeper. I reshaped the tooth profile to match the original gear. So...
Engineer8000,
I figured it wasn't a variable resistor as it looks different than another sender I have seen, and couldn't measure resistance.
Exactly what is the mechanism? Don't believe it is variable capacitance as the supply is DC, not AC.
45Dougal, good catch.
When you stated bending the arm, I thought that could be why the resistance went open circuit with the arm full down, and gauge dropped below E, overtraveling the sensor.
It was tricky to bend the arm close to the pivot so I did not need to modify the limit travel...
With a new fuel sender, the fuel gauge only goes to about 3/4 to 7/8 full when I articulate the float full up. The gauge follows properly when moving the float arm part way. When I set it at full down, the gauge indicates past empty.
I measured the unit resistance with two DMM's, and the...

I do not know what the previous owner did regarding tires or diff. ratios. When I sourced tires, I went with the same revs./mile as original, at least I thought so.
I know with GM vehicles, there are numerous driven gears for a given drive gear, not familiar with Toyota.
The current gear is...
Thanks JVZii, snow gone and removed from storage and odo works with the gear he supplied, 1968 FJ40, three speed manual.
But, speedo and odo indications are 10% high. I would like to change to a 19 tooth driven gear. Searching this forum, I believe the P/N is 33403-69135.
Can anyone verify if...

Thanks for the advise. I did put antisieze on the petcock, hopefully to prevent freeze up.
This extension is shorter and lighter than the one on the original radiator.
I guess we'll see how it goes, can always remove the lower hose.
I was able to make an extension using 1/8 NPT bits.
I tapped one nipple with a 10 x 1.5 mm die, which is slightly smaller diameter than the 1/8 NPT nipple. Then added a rubber coated fiber washer, drain petcock on the other end.
The plastic plug that came with the CSF radiator is quite buried...
Well,
Received the gears, and my bad luck, they are too large.
Mine is 1.75 in. overall length and 0.25 in diameter.
Would you or anyone happen to have the smaller gear? Anyone interested in the larger gears?
Thanks,
The ones I looked ar were pretty bright, would like to stay with something more like original.
A friend recommended 1445 or 363 bulbs. Will go to the local auto supply and see what's available.
I would like to get brighter lights than the #53 bulbs for the instrument gauges on a 1968 FJ40.
The #57 bulb globe is too large to fit. I am thinking of trying #1816 bulbs which are brighter, but longer. Will measure today to see if there is enough room.
Has anyone found/installed a...
They look fine to me, and a lot better than what I have.
I would like to get at least one, I'm sure I can polish/smooth it. Worth a try to me.
How can I organise a couple?
Are these the pict's you need? Couldn't rotate them in the insert, they are the correct orientation when taken...
From previous posts on this forum, I was able to disassemble, clean and lube the odometer. The wheels were quite difficult to remove from the shaft, lube was sticky.
Now just need the drive gear. Hopefully JVZii has some.
Jack,
Tried to send a PM, but couldn't figure how to attach a photo.
Anyway, I need the angled gear for the odo, as you can see, the teeth are worn off. If you have one, what is the cost?
I am going to remove the odo and lube it, if not successful, I may send it to you.
Thanks.
Ron
Hey, thanks.
I do have the speedometer out on the staging bench in my workshop. When I return home later next week, I will take a look at the odo.
So, I may be contacting you.
Ron
Yes, it is a 3 speed with the knurled knob screw in cable. Has new cable.
Speedo works fine, odo is inop. Traveling now, when I return I will take a closer look at the odo mechanism.
