Engine has not idled well since rebuild. Progressively, I had to run the engine with the choke closed more and more just to keep an idle. NO vacuum leaks! I had the carb rebuilt along with engine (same outfit - took them three tries to get me the right/working carb, but that's another story)...
Ok, I guessed that the engine I had rebuilt to replace my 78 2F was a 79, but I just checked the produciton date stamp on the DS block and it's a 75. What are the differences between the 75 and 78 and is one year preferable over the other for a rebuild? I know that my 78 had flat top pistons and...
Does anyone know of any problems that might arise using good engine ancillaries (carb - no smog equip, feul pump, water pump, distributer, etc.) from a 78 2F on a rebuilt 79 2F?
Pin_Head: Thanks for the insight. How do you go about checking the idle fuel solenoid cut off valve and its circuit?
SpaceGhost: I did have a new fuel filter installed and the gas tank on my truck is only about three years old. I even changed fuel filters, again and cut open the old one to...
Aisan Carb issues
My 78 FJ40 (newly rebuilt 2F engine, Aisan Carb, Downey Header and Cam) won't hold an idle unless the choke is halfway closed. Problem started after I sent the carb (and engine) out for a rebuild (won't name the place where I sent it, yet). Initially, after the rebuild, the...
Thanks everyone for the advice. Problem solved. I just took on old screw with the right sized thread, tapped/screwed it into the stuck length of pipe, locked a pair of vice grips under the screw head and knocked the vice grips from underneath a few times with a hammer. Came right out. Suppose I...
Woops... Tried to wiggle it out and the guide snapped right at the base, flush with the block. Now I've got to find a way to get the remaining length of guide out? Any suggestions?
Can anyone tell me how to remove/replace the oil dipstick guide on a '78 2F. Mine is leaking oil at the base where it meets the block. I can't tell for certain but I think it's cracked. There is quite a bit of play at the base if you wiggle the whole guide. Anyone dealt with this problem before...
