Peoples of Teh Interweb,
I have had a vintage high performance unit in my 1975 fj40 for a year or two, installed professionally by Avid Offroad (local cruiser specialist) here in AZ. Last few days or so, i've had an issue where the blower will stop working, and then mysteriously restart later...
I ordered a new flasher as id rather spend $12 than 2 hours digging around my electrics...o figured if it didnt fix it it is a 30 seconds fix and cheap. The relay hasn't arrived but now everything works again.
WOrked fine yesterday. Of note I have had all LED lights for years now with no issues prior to today.
Potentially important: Been raining today and yesterday when driving.
Dash signal lights turn on as do the actual indicator lights outside the truck, for both hazard and turn tignals. Just...
So after doing additional searching on the topic on mud I saw a post from a while back from Pinhead suggesting pulling all the bulbs which I did. It appears that the license plate bulb or circuit I should say is the culprit as the the lights now work with those removed. It has been raining...
Just started popping the fuse tonight on drive home. the top one on the fuse block (15amp). All running lights are out, but headlights, turns, brakes and hazards all function normally. I have the wiring diagram prinout, but am not really sure how to troubleshoot this? Is there a way to see...
This is the first time I've ever had this issue in almost 30 years with this truck. My headlights, but not my running lights, I've been popping on randomly while I drive. I have had an HID conversion kit on there for quite a few years now with no issues previously. My guess is it is in the...
as an update. tranny and TC rebuild shop think my tech (different shop) who did the RnR of the unit, including putting back on of the parking brake, did not shim the unit correctly, allowing movement of the driving gear for the speedo when under load. I ordered a shim set from SOR. hopefully...
Is this a difficult maneuver without pulling the transfer case? Ill ask the tech to do whar you suggest as im leery of pulling parts out of my transfercase.
Ok thanks for into... But i guess what has me slightly confused is with the initial rebuild I did not replace the speedo gear. I just put the old one back in. Or I should say the shop put the old one back in. So it had the original gear that's been in there for a decade and working just fine...
The replacement Speedo gear I put in was the same number of teeth as the one I pulled out, 18. So assuming it has the same number of teeth is there some other measurement that could be different? Or is there some other potential source of chewing up the gear
Had my 9/1975 stock drivetrain fj40 tranny and TC rebuilt. Upon receipt of vehicle the speedo worked erratically for a short period before giving up the ghost. I had tech put in brand new speedo gear (same # of teeth that was removed...18). New speedo worked for maybe 30 miles normally. Then...
Update...
So i replaced the speedo gear. It worked briefly...then stopped working again. New gear (18 tooth...same size that was in there) is also thrashed.
Ordering another gear, this time having rebuild shop install. They are trying to tell me it was the cable (till I pointed out i...
about a 0.5 banana job on a hard day. maybe 30 minutes to install. Incredible improvement over the stock lights. I already had the separate wire loom that runs directly off the alternator (bypasses most of the stock light wiring) and the halogen bulbs... and the HID lights are no comparison...
