Hello everyone. Seems like a long while back someone mentioned a mechanic (individual or shop) near Charlotte, NC that works on cruisers. If anyone knows someone or some place that works on cruisers, please let me know. I've got a 1976 FJ40. I realize most here work on their on own...
Nice Rig: Question for you
I too am in Charlotte...a long while back I recollect someone saying there was a shop "not too far away" that worked on cruisers. My 76' needs a tune up...and I just don't have the time to work on it. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks,
I'm in Charlotte as well...
I have a 76 cruiser....I've had it since highschool (roughly 13 years). Does the email attached to your contact info work?
I've recently been reunited with the cruiser ( its been with my parents in Alabama)...I could possibly use some advise in the near future. I...
Follow Up
No, its not happening when I push the clutch in....just at high RPM if you will...right before you can hear the engine needing to shift to next highest gear....Is the consensus really just another belt? That would be nice.
I'm just getting back to my old cruiser after many years away from it...school, moving, etc....
The problem: whenever I'm about to change gears upwards...1 to 2...2 to 3...etc.....the engine (Belts?) start squeeling quite loudly...very annoying. I pretty much am limited to not going over 40...
To lcwizard: Granted I bought this vehicle back in highschool, so I pretty much took the original owner's word. To confirm though, I check the body tag id....made in March 1976, I checked the engine block...2F, and she still has disc brakes up front. Could I not have the original tire carrier...
To Trollhole: I will post pics later today hopefully...thanks for catching something if you did. It's been sitting a long time...so there is no telling...
Actually, it was a baby blue cruiser that I saw on the front cover of an off-road magazine that gave me the bug originally about 15 years ago.
To answer werd, I don't live in Alabama anymore (family still does)...I now reside in Charlotte, NC. The beach is close by...the mountains are even...
Yea, I read on here lately that it was a no-no to change the color. That's how she was when I got her though. So, what's the consensus...don't change the color or don't repaint at all?
Thanks for the comments. I meant to point out that there are few minor rust spots on it where it looks like the previous owner tried to do a little touch up here and there. I'll have a few questions in the near future to try and improve the ol' gal. Thanks again.
I'm relatively new this forum. My first post posed this question-"What makes a FJ40 good? I explained that I've recently been reunited with my 76 FJ40 (had it since I was 16...now I'm 29). It was driven daily the first few years...then driven occasionnaly...the last few years...not at all. She's...
Very touched
I too am sorry for your loss. Your idea is perfect in many ways. I'm very touched that you would do this for your son...Maybe it did get in the right thread after all...the above posts seemed unrelated at first.
I can definitely post some pics this weekend. I plan to give her a good once over. She's kinda dusty etc from just sitting there. Thank you aksnowryder. I need more info like you gave concerning specifics things to look at...rear corners, sill etc. Thank you again.
I'm brand new to the forum....so let me explain a bit. I have 76 fj40. I've had it since I was 16 years old (I'm 29 now).....but I knew back then what I liked. I drove it everyday in highschool. I left it with the parents in college (driven once a month maybe). While in Grad. School....I don't...
