6 degree shims front and rear, plus a balanced DS with new bearings solved my post lift vibrations. I was ready to pull the trigger on a DC if that hadn't worked.
Yes... I have an '80 and that is how it is configured. I was asking about the exhaust kit coming out with the header. The current exhaust is susceptible to being crushed (where it crosses under the frame to the cat). I was thinking that, once the header is on, I will need to take it to a...
I started jiggling around with stuff more... the rear barn door latch rattles like crazy actually! Next chance I get, I'll have a buddy ride back there and muffle stuff.
The two factors that most influenced my driveline vibrations after installing the EMU lift kit were 1) the U-Joint bearings and 2) getting the right shims added to the spring perches. The final coup de gras for vibrations was updating the diffs with ARB lockers and new ring and pinion gears and...
Ah right, yes, they are aligned properly. The fact that it runs quiet on tarmac with very little vibration from the drive train, and only rumbles on rough roads, seems to indicate something is loose.
So time consuming without some way of isolating it! I chased a nasty chirp for almost all summer last year. Turned out to be one of bolts holding the 4Plus tire carrier to my cross member was rubbing against the metal part of a body mount... easy fix.
In time? Perhaps you meant in tune? I had them balanced. One question I had was: If the shop that balanced them would notice if the main splined joint is loose at all... I would assume this would be caught in the balancing process?
It makes the rumble with the hubs in or out, 2WD or 4WD. I spent a LOT of time getting the pinion angles worked out and have zero vibration at speed. I replaced the U Joints (Matsuba) as part of the suspension geometry set up. Thanks for the suggestions!
Interesting... I greased mine as well. The thing I'm chasing sounds more like a rumble... e.g., how I would imagine a loose U-Bolt or drive shaft might sound. Do new leaf springs make that sound, or is more of a squeak/chirp?
OK, thanks for all the input! I'll keep chasing... and get a helper! I think I might try to eliminate the drive lines next, by removing one at a time and driving around with the other.
I'm chasing a rattle/rumble in my truck, but am I chasing my tail? I have a virtually all new suspension. EMU with U-bolt flip kit. New Orion TC, balanced original drive lines with new bearings. Knuckles rebuilt. Rebuilt diffs (ARB lockers and new ring and pinion gears), rebuilt brakes and...
