What are my options for a new (stock) fuel tank, and what would you guys recommend. I live in the AZ desert if that makes a difference. I've seen fiberglass, some other weird resin ones, aluminum, and steel. Any links would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The bumpers on this thing are ridiculous. They are thick iron and they stick out way far. The rear one takes any departure angle this thing ever had. It was used as a standing platform for hunting in TX I think judging from the handles on the old top I took off. I'm likely going to...
I removed the top
and the seats
Stripping it down for some body work, upholstry, and fresh paint. I got another really nice refurbished hardtop top and sides that are already freshly painted. On the move with this thing finally.
I would also recommend checking your axle seals for leaks. Brake fluid can leak into the drum, gumming it up, causing things to stick. Look for wetness around the back of the drum.
That's what I was thinking. It pretty much takes all the departure away, and that bumper is not bending. It's solid thick gauged iron, railroad style. It's very well made, I'm going to cut it off as clean as possible as it's welded on just in case someone wants to reuse it. I might keep part...
I think the original owner used this rig for hunting. It's like a platform to stand on, and the original top had bars to hold onto as well. The front bumper is just as gnarly. :hillbilly: They will be removed at some point, and probably will shave 1200lbs off the rig. :D
So the "original?" single barrel Rochester that I just found for my F powered rig is a poor choice if I want to do any hills or off camber stuff?:bang: I though it was the opposite, that's why I tried to find one.
I agree, it a telltale sign of a bad axle seal. While you're fixing it, check the diff breather to make sure it's not clogged with mud or something or it will ruin the seal again.

Small update: I've decided to just replace the top completely. A local guy is selling me a refurbed top and sides. This works out pretty good since my top was kind of rotted and the sides had some corner glass frenched in that was broken. So now I'll have a fully stock refurbed top for my...
It has some nasty bumpers on it, it has some sheeatty Carter Carb on it that doesn't work, and it was rattle canned a year or so ago. Besides that, it's unmolested. It needs a lot of cleanup work, and a smidge of TLC. I think I'm getting the confirmations of what I needed to hear. Make it...
I'll look for it in August. I'll stop by and flip your bezel over so you'll know I was there.:hillbilly: I spent a couple hours at the NAPA there last summer trying to secure the driveline I disconnected on my 4Runner so I could pull it on a dolly.
It came from Western Texas originally, but it's very very rust free. The only rust to speak of is a little under the rear doors on the sill. I am having that replaced in a month or two. That was kind of my thinking here was to sell it for a beater cruiser and some extra money. I don't know...
I was thinking of a 100 series TCase as I read somewhere it will line up with FJ40 axles better than a Tundra's. I'm wondering if it will be geared low enough if I use the Lex trans, I don't know enough about it.
