Post pics of your OEM/Reproduction top fj4x's

SHhhhhh!! My wife is sitting right here!! :ban: The '71 will have to do for now. :D The top won't stay on the '78. It's smurfurrific enough without a full white top. The top has the right fastener configuration for the '71. (only twistlocks on tub-no footman loops on the tub)...

Just test fitting things here...or I think my daughters might call it "playing dress-up". :D This rig is getting closer to a repaint all the time... Along with swapping some Franken-parts back to stock. It isn't quite the Cruiser I envision, but it's getting closer. :) Anywho, just thought...

Which soft top is my tub drilled for?

^ This. My 9/71 FST rig has no footman loops on the tub. Just holes for twist locks. And, my late '60's Toyota top is the same. No straps for the tub, just the tailgate. To op's rig looks to have the two small, vertical holes in the top rail for the Bestop bow bracket that I used to have...

'72 Factory Soft Top Project. "Power Wheels"

The cherry on top for this project arrived yesterday! I've got the cart before the horse, don't I ?!! The '78 is going to model it for awhile. Still getting it stretched out and fitted. It's permanent home will be on the 71. :) Couple 'o teasers....

I rust proofed/painted the inside of this thing, and the brackets. I just need to weld the brackets in place. Then I can button this piece back up, and mount it in the tub.

Bent steering: Tie and Drag bars - options?

x3 Call him up, tell him your application, and he'll make what you need. You won't likely bend this one! Wait until you compare it to the feeble stock TR. ;) Been running mine for a few years now. Worth every penny.

71 FJ 40 what to do with it?

I wouldn't be too terribly concerned about that, with that rig. Looks pretty complete. The hardest to find, and pehaps most expensive parts, you already have. The original soft top frame and accessories. Thanks to this forum, most of the parts on that rig are easy to find. With a little...

71 FJ 40 what to do with it?

I run a not-for-proffit rescue home for unwanted and/or abused factory soft top FJ40's. Plenty of room for them to run around, fenced in yard, and kids to play with them! They are loved here, and treated with the respect and dignity they deserve! We have a very limited budget, but currently have...

..And so it begins.... my BJ40 frame off restoration

    Is she legal yet?

'72 Factory Soft Top Project. "Power Wheels"

Great! If it wasn't for all the talented people on Mud sharing there knowledge, I would have never gotten this far! Lots of reading, and making mental notes over the years....Still got lots to learn. Yup, mental road blocks. It's funny to look back at things that used to be so intimidating, and...

    1973 Toyota FJ40 Build.....Long Road Ahead

I didn't think about that. That makes good sense. The later hoods with the drivers side prop sure do twist when they're up.

    1973 Toyota FJ40 Build.....Long Road Ahead

I've never seen anyone put hood struts on a 40. Pretty cool! I think I would miss being able to rest the hood againt the windshield though. Hopefully you won't need to work on the motor for a while after she's back together anyway! She looks great!

'72 Factory Soft Top Project. "Power Wheels"

That's as far as I got this evening. I know. This thread is riveting. Hey, baby steps. ;p I've got the day off tomorrow. Hopefully I can get the rest of the brackets in place, start rust proofing, and painting the inside off this thing. Then start putting her back together. I'm...

'72 Factory Soft Top Project. "Power Wheels"

I had to trim this little guy to clear the bucket seat nut.

'72 Factory Soft Top Project. "Power Wheels"

Forgot to show the before... Had a couple hours this evening. Started putting in the mounts for the bench seats. This side wasn't too terribly difficult. Just had to trim about a 1/4" off of one side of the seat bracket, and it fit right beside the existing bracket. As you can see...

    1968 fj40 resto

Just about the time I start feeling good about the progress on my 40, I open this thread...and it takes me down a notch or two! Great work! Truly inspirational!

'72 Factory Soft Top Project. "Power Wheels"

..and to bring us up to date; a special pet project for me. Removing the rear soft top brackets. Been putting this off for quite some time. It was just as much fun as I had imagined. I'd be embarrassed to say how long it took me to get these four bolts out cleanly! :bang:
