Thanx for the reply, it did help. Also I searched for several hours trying to find the specific info. reddingcruiser's tip on the exact diode number helps a ton. While I know converting to a GM alternator is an often asked topic, I didn't think my specific questions were.
For those...
I'm finishing hooking up my TBI and am wiring my alternator. I have a couple questions. I'll start by saying its a three wire alt with batt, red wire, and brown wire. I've deduced that on the stock wiring harness White with blue stripe goes to the batt on alt and the red (terminal 2) gets jumped...
It's been done quite a bit - I currently have a 78 set up like this. Advanced Adapters and several companies make the adapters that you want. You can even keep the transmission in the stock location to avoid driveshaft issues, etc. I'd be more worried about the coarse spline birfs and pinions...
It's pretty much all I have to choose from around here. I was told one of the local race teams pays $700 just for the stainless pillow bearing they use on their rigs. I'll just be glad when I have a front driveline that works
A crossbrace was added to replace the one I cut out and the tranny cooler is bolted to that - it's a B&M with its own fan and I'm also running a frame rail heat sink cooler.
Finally got the front driveshaft - $700 and I took it home and it's too short.....did I mention that I actually trailered the landcruiser to the driveline shop so they could take their own measurments?
Well.............I'm still having front driveshaft woes. Have another shop making the front driveline and they are now 3 weeks into with no estimated end date. Seems like I call and they keep sayin "It'll be done next week" ugghh.
I did run the tranny cooling lines and put in an...
And the tranny cooler mounted, still needs a rock guard - this cooler has its own fan and thermo switch that comes on when it's 175deg. I will also be using a frame rail cooler before it gets to this one. Hopefully I won't have any tranny cooling issues.
Cruiser is home - unfortunately without the front driveshaft. I was quoted ~$1400 for a two piece front driveshaft so I'm going with plan B - Fab it myself and have a local driveline shop do the machining and balancing. Here's some more pics of the completed bumpers.
The idea with the front...
Front winch plate/bumper initial made from 3/8ths - the spring hangers were also gusseted so I didn't have to worry about banging them. There's pintle hook mounts now too not seen in this photo
Rear bumper initial tacking and mockup
The front and rear are all done and welded up and on but...
I'm rocking the redneck Atlas :p -D300, HD 32 spline output, 4:1 gears, twinsticked. I even entertained getting the Stak replace a case since the iron case is probably the weakest link on it now
If I break it I'll replace it with an Atlas or Stak :bang:
I will also 4 link at least the rear...
Thanx for the encouragement guys - I always love hearing the "why did you do that?", "Have you thought about this?" and especially the "here's how I did mine" (especially with pictures) Most of my build plans and ideas have come from other builds on here.
Maybe it's best to express my...
When I started this project I never thought it would be so "built". While it's not necessarily hardcore, I wish I could have gone back and started it in the hardcore section. I think I would have gotten a lot more feedback than I have in the general tech section :frown:
some more progress pics - one ton master adapted to the LC booster with new front and rear lines for the 60/14 with hardware for the rear 3/4 ton disc conversion
