not on a lc motor, done many times on 22r motors with FELPRO hi po gasket(graphite?) occasionally they were torn in which case i wouldnt use em. most other gaskets ive seen cant do that after they are run even alittle. but since the orig poster didnt run this engine then I would change...
done it lots of times but the gaskets ive done it with were of a differet material. take the head off and see if the gaskets are torn or anything, if so dont use it. if the gasket is the same as when you put it on it should be fine.
tried that just the other day, it was fine but i DIDNT run the engine. I torqued the head and then found out something was installed wrong so the next day I took the head off again. damn head is sooooo heavy
Im putting back the head the same way I took it off. the book shows that the rotating valve retainers go on the exh valve. The engine looks like it has never been taken apart before, is this a typo in the book? almost done with this installation and then I see the picture. if anyone...
wnt to the best machine shop (here) and they said that they couldnt to it bcause it went from the cmbstion chmbr to under the exhst vlve seat. the guy said he actually had an extra one for $350 that had been rsurfaced and valveseats grinded(no valves) customer didnt pick it up after a year...
btw how does it crank? wouldnt there be no advance until a little over idle rpm? I never tried the timing light while crankin but if it works whil crankin then i would think that the timing would be off because of the no ....dude never mind I dont know what the hell im talkin bout. sorry man
dont know much bout these ngines but isnt it physically impossible for the timing to fall out of place? Im lookin at the book now and see that you have to pull the distrbutor out to change things other that adjusting the dist. maybe its inside the new dist? somethin loose in there? or maybe...
dont mean to make this tread run on but are cracking heads somethin that usually happens? like just one overheat? or is this an indication that my engine has been really really abused and negleted? just wonderin because if this easily happens then I dont want to use these engines anymore.
shed, it prolly was me you told bout chekin the head. I just found the crack this mornin after I posted about a carbed 3fe. Im goin to check around to see if anyone can weld this thing
I havent cleaned it up yet, damn mo fo is so heavy and big that i have to prep someplace to do all the work. Actually, i inspected the combstion chmbr side but not where the valvesprings were. I could not see any cracks.
I just pulled the head off my 3fe and could not find the cause of the oil and water mixing. The gasket looked fine or rather, I couldnt find anything that looked like leaking. head bolts next to exh ports had carbon buildup (seemed like exhaust carbon) on the threads and were very hard to...
