What sort of pricing are you looking at? I need to feed both a 16 pulse electronic speedo and the 2-pulse input on a TBI ECM.
Haven't purchased it yet but planning on using the Classic Instruments 16 pulse VSS (part number SN16m, which has 22mm x 1.5 threads).

The speedo was a special order item; the stock unit has a 200 mph readout that would be pretty silly on a cruiser! Classic also offers a sender that will fit the Toyota t-case output.

I haven't installed it yet (or even painted the panel) but this is what's going in my 40. Trail Candy panel and Classic Instruments gauges.

FWIW check out gearhead-efi.com for tbi info. Good group of guys with a lot of knowledge. Thirdgen.org has a tbi forum also, but they can be pretty snarky with basic questions.

I just did this as I get ready for a disc brake swap. I used a brush and didn't bother masking; I just didn't paint any surface that wasn't originally painted. Spray painting seems like more trouble than it's worth.

I'm not sure I understand this; what problems does centering the engine present? Also, do the Firestein mounts allow any flexibility in engine placement relative to the frame centerline?

The switch from '69 to '70 was mid-month 10/69.
FWIW my 40 was built 10/69 and is titled as a 1970 model although I consider it a '69 since it has bullet style parking lights on the bib and does not have side marker lights.

They're "better" in the sense that they're mounted on the axle which is important when a driveshaft parking brake isn't an option ( as with a split case). Also, the rear drums on 60 (and late 40) axles are self adjusting which is definately better.

You may be overestimating how much width you will gain. I have a rear axle from '83 60 that I'm planning to install on my 40 (for the rear parking brake so I can use a split-case) and it measures spot on 57" wide (WMS to WMS). I haven't measured my current 40 axle, but I've read that they're...
I'm in the planning stage of a transmission/t-case swap and need some info. My 10/69 40 already has a 4 speed transmission and transfer case but I would like to upgrade to a split case (I'm running a SBC). Did late 40s that came from the factory with a split case have longer drive shafts? If...
I'm about to insall a set of 60 lift springs that I salvaged from a truck I parted out on my 10/69 40. I salvaged all of the hangers off of the frame of the donor 60 and as soon as I get the "geometry" figured out I need to install them on my 40 frame.
Since I obviously won't be using rivets...
Since you figured out your wiring question I have a few questions for you. Are you running a stock transmission? What pulse generator did you use? Any problems fitting it on the tranny? (As you probably guessed, I'm planning on installing an electronic speedo too).
You should be able to get...
I stripped a 60 axle for a disc brake swap yesterday and the birfs have clear signs of overheating. Is this normal and, more importantly, are these birfs usable?
