Hi mike,
I will be at the Seattle Cruiserheads meeting on October 11th. I will be driving my 100 Series to the Palm Springs, CA. area in a few weeks so can take this along and hand it off along the way if interested. Let me know.

What would you like to know? I have installed/run both in a FJ40.
The transmission housing is the the same length for both.
The input/output shaft's spline counts can change depending on the engine it is mated to.
There are also changes depending on the transfer case used (e.p. one-piece...
A few of us have built soft half cabs for our 'wheeling 40s. I modified an old BestTop soft top. It isn't pretty, much helps keep you warmer and dryer than just doors and a bikini top does.

In a full floating axle the weight of the vehicle is supported by the axle housing, the axle shafts just move the vehicle. If you bust a rear TLC semi-floating axle the shaft comes out of the housing and the wheel/tire falls off! In the full floating axle that wheel just doesn't get power...
I dunno but 215 degrees F doesn't sound that hot to me for a 2F engine. Why do you think the engine is overheating?
From my experience the F Series engines are always really hot when operating, and the temp gauge will go up during hotter days.

Alan
White Stripe that only holds true if A) the transmission is a H41, and B) the transfer case is an Orion 4:1.
A H42 with stock t-case gearing, 3.7 gears, and 35 inch tires will suck both on the pavement and off. The overdrive effect of the (drastically) taller than stock tires will have the 2F...
Well, it certainly looks better than the usual diamond plate aluminum pieces sold for that use.
But it is not an actual tail gate, just a piece used to fill the gap after removing the 1975 - 84 hard top and barn doors.

Last time I did a clutch job on my '74 ( 2 - 3 years ago) I bought a "three speed" clutch kit from Rock Auto.com
Brand was Exedy and price was competitive.

Look for rust, rust, and rust!
Look under the rear cargo doors. Look in the wheel wells just behind the front seats. Bring a magnet along and go along the body tub making sure it sticks - if not you've probably found Bondo.
Good luck on your search; I had to replace the rear tub on my '74...
Hi all,
The thing you call a "welch plug" is a dust cover.
I have removed these to allow more compression of the drive shaft slip joint. To cover the slip joint I used a Rancho brand shock boot I had on the shelf.
Thanks for the Crown and Dorman part numbers.

Alan
No disrespect intended, but are you sure bikersmurf ? The 80 Series didn't hit the market until 1990. And the 80 Series didn't get 4 wheel disc brakes until 1993 (U.S. market) IIRC.

Hi all,
What RPM is the 2F set to idle at?
A well warmed-up 2F should lug a bit in low-range, with the RPM dropping down below the typical idle setting (~650 RPM.)

Hi all,
I don't know what shipping to North America will cost, but if you can get this truck for U.S. $5,200.00 or less I think it will definitely be be worth it.
FJ45 pick ups go for an inflated price in North America due to these rigs being relatively rare here (they are a dime a dozen in...
Hi all,
Your rig will need a different bell housing in order to fit the Land Cruiser 4 speed transmission. Advance Adapters sells these.
Adapting the early 3 speed t-case is possible; it depends on which Land Cruiser 4 speed transmission you bought (early or later production.)
The existing...
Hi all,
Sorry Kurt, gotta disagree with you on this.
Yes, the intention is that the "fin" on that one side plate will prevent shackle inversion. But in reality if you 'wheel the rig hard these don't prevent shackle inversion, only the triangular shackles, or a weld-on plate will.
I ran the...
Hi all,
Finally got around to replacing the oil pan gasket on the 2F in my 40. It has been leaking most of the time I've owned this rig (~19 years) - finally got to the point that I couldn't ignore it any longer. The job had the added "fun factor" of removing a busted-off pan bolt. :meh...
Hi all,
I installed a coolant temp sensor for TBI using an existing threaded hole on the thermostat housing.
The threading in this hole is 3/8ths inch BPT (not NPT) which I would imagine is common in Australia.

Hi all,
Tisha, welcome to MUD!
Building a FJ40 to be both a rock crawler AND an expedition rig is a tall order.
I think the first step is establishing your budget for the build, then seeing which parts and mods you can fit into it. If you are paying a shop to do the work this will drain...
