Got angry at the turn signal switch. Got to disassembling it and ....don't care. Disassembled it..cleaned it. I'm not tedious enough to reassemble it. Gave up. Hand signals are good enough for now. Drive it otherwise, Vallhalla.
It was a job I wanted to do anyway. Should've done this to baseline before the Sniper install in the first place. And yeah they're cheap enough to just replace 'em.
Got to thinking while going through an old to-do list on the 55. Despite all the new stuff and work put in I couldn't recall ever changing the spark plugs.
I was right. They were trash. However, even though they were really bad they weren't soaking in neither oil nor fuel so at least that's...
I had to trim the gasket as well. I found that the butterflies would catch from time-to-time cause a really nasty sticking throttle. Just as a heads-up.
It's been a while! Continuing shakedown. It's loud, hot, slow and smelly -so "normal".
It'll hang at 2500rpm all day and about 55mph.
The pan leak is "managed". The pan is pretty warped but with persuasion and patience it'll fit.
There's some valvetrain "tacking" noise from one of either #5 or...
Adjusted valves - they were good.
Started the shakedown drive phase of the project.
Brakes need looking at again (leaky, boiling over, intermittent working)
Sniper throttle gets stuck open randomly (4k rpm sounds good with the big exhaust). Turns out the carb gasket was thick and catching the...
@Rick Carroll so I ended up cleaning the inside of the pulley up a tad. There was a lip the I smoothed out and cleaned up the keyway and it went on like a dream. This was mostly because my stuff was boogered up and the pulley was fine, though.
Got the Dayco PB1053N from RockAuto. It seems pretty decent. I'm having a hard time installing but I'm 99% sure thats because of me and not the pulley.
Stripped a crank nut. Turns out there wasn't much left to this one. Immediately gave up. Before it started taking torque. Just loosey goosey on the crank and woop free Willie.
Tire Day!!!! Also, brakes look fine. I was worried they were gonna be toast. Just need an adjustment. I deem it beer run worthy. 🍻
Valve adjustment and some little things here and there to finish up and it's useable enough to start tuning the Sniper.
Seats are in (need to fab a spacer for the passenger side).
Tried the half done exhaust (it's quite loud).
Went for a "long" drive. Need to address brakes, whatever that clack is, and tires.
I'm not overly worried about exposed threads and clearance. This won't seemuch more than the odd fire road and camp trail. This will get redone sometime in the future. This mainly helps me get the exhaust done and get it driving again.
