I have greasable shackles, but couldn't affort the frame eye pins when I recently put on the new suspension.
I butter the shiite out of my bushings etc. There is more movement in the shackles than the frame pin end, that was my philosophy.
I think over time, long time, your suspension will...
I addressed rust issues on my hardtop sides with wire wheel, POR-15, some fiberglass, some bondo, and 2 rattle cans of color matched PPG. I fully expected this to suck soon but it's still doing okay after a year. I did it to hold off the need of buying new (fiberglass) hard top sides or a...
If I may say that I've not been terribly happy with my parabolics, but they only have a couple months on them. They are pretty much as bouncy and stiff as my old flat stock springs. I can feel the greater articulation off road that they boast, but I'm not as impressed with their overall...
3B came with the BJ42 in 1981, and was used in the BJ60, BJ70 etc. through the 1980s with some changes (e.g. rotary injection pump).
We 3Bers know we're slow, but low end torque is fantastic and fuel mileage that comes close to being 2x a 2F engine is not something to sneeze at. Frankly, I...
you might get more response on the diesel board...
the BJ of that year has a B engine--3 liter, a total dog. The 3B is a total dog even at 3.4 liters, and has piston skirt oil cooler making it readily turbo'd.
The B engine would get at least 50% better fuel mileage than the 2F(?) in the FJ...
I didn't read the whole thread but this is the first link I agreed with/was very thorough, so I will x2 it.
Things are a little different with a BJ42 as I get well over 20 mpg. My parabolic springs are gradually breaking in, and while they are not as forgiving as the ride on my old FJ60...
electric motors have great torque...
won't matter what grade you get on...
the battery charge would last as long as most trails...
watch out for water...
Why not?
local mom and pop hardware store is where I get mine
I can't remember if it's SOR or somebody else who has a full SS bolt body kit. It will probably save you money if you don't have any yet. I did from the PO so I am slowly buying SS bolts as I work on different parts...
Remember there are...
The canuck diesel guys use a coolant circulator that fits in the lower rad hose--might help you. Sorry I forgot the name of it but some searching in the diesel board may turn it up. Or just post over there--there's a lot of cold weather knowledge.

i would go with alu if you want long term low maintenance and don't care about original factory detail or a little galling/electrolosys. to be honest I think the stuff is tougher than the factory steel--my tub is like 3/16s thick. I would say actually it's a good trail rig choice as long as...
A common issue is galling if there is contact between steel and alu parts. Use rubber spacers or lots of good paint between the parts.
Fitment of parts is not as good as factory steel. I have 1st gen parts though--I'm sure they've improved.
That being said it sure is nice having a 40 with...
Awesome detailed work. You're right about the frame work--nice. I had such a piece of sh!t guy do some frame work for me...
May I ask: eventhough you are in NM etc. why not replace the passenger floor while you have everything torn down? How much more $$$/time will it take at this point...
