I keep mine at about 15 volts at full output. Currently running an Optima and a big Leece alternator. Haven't had a bit of problems with this setup after 4+ years of hard use.
I've had nothing but bad luck with exide batteries over the years. It didn't matter if I bought a 60, 72, whatever...
Just a reminder. While you have your tranny out, hows the clutch? Now would be the time to replace these component (including pilot bearing and t/o bearing). Heck, even if not doing the clutch, you might still want to replace the bearings.
I went to install my new Aussie last weekend. I bought some new thicker shims and when I went to test for clearance, I could barely get the center pin in. Basically, there was no clearance.
I then used the shims from the old side gears. This time, one side had the proper clearance (I think it...
I run a leece neville on my 60. Units are big, reliable, and put out some real power. Mine is a 200 amp model. These are used on ambulances, fire trucks, big rigs, etc. The only connections I had to make were to the battery and to ground.
If your battery has both top and side posts, don't use the side posts. I've seen these melt. Optima even will not warranty a bettery that had a winch connected to the side posts.
Also, crimp on the connector. I've seen cables get hot and melt solder. A good battery store should have the giant...
I've had a Downey one on my FJ40 for about 15 years. No problems. That being said, I think others might also sell the same headers. I bought some from TPI about 6 years ago for my FJ60 and they look the same as the Downey one on the 40.
Haven't found one person yet that has gotten the El Dorado parking brake to work worth a darn. Transfer case brake should work good if not getting soaked in gear oil. I'd go disc all around and fix the current parking brake.
When I went to college in California, there were lots of out of state students with cars that were registered in their home state. Seems like if California is going to charge you out of state tuition, they shouldn't be able to claim your a resident.
I agree that you should do this yourself. It's alot more dirty than difficult. And Poser's suggestion on a few extra seals is good thinking.
Here are a couple of write-ups so you'll know what your getting into. If you are slightly mechanically inclined, you'll have no problem. Your going to...
Since you already have all the holley stuff in place, I would try a Ford motorcraft 2 barrel carb. These are great carbs!
First of all, they have a holley bolt pattern, so your all set there.
Second, they have to be one of the most plentiful carbs made. Ford used these for umpteen years on...
After suffering for a few years with Blitz cans (I'm a slow learner), I bought some Swiss NATO cans from Sportsmans Guide about 7 years ago. They are awesome. Don't leak at all (or even smell). Gave my Blitz can to a (not so good) friend.
Looks like they are only $15 each at the guide, plus...
