Well, tapped and drilled vac shift fork to fit. To do it, you gotta be pretty precise with your hole (dead on, no angles.) And found out im not that precise:D Had to "shave" the set screw to get it to work, but it can be done. Will get me through my next wheelin trip, but im about to have a...
Ive got a '72 3spd transfer case that has an extremely worn 2wd/4wd shift fork, causing my t-case to pop outta 4wd into 2wd while driving. I have a shift fork from a vaccum operated '67 3spd case that is the same dimension, but needs a hole drilled and tapped for set screw to fit in newer 3spd...
Gotta love the broken birf! Bobby gives a local discount if you come pick up the Longs personally, or have someone do it for you. Yeah, beadlocks are pretty heavy. Just bought and installed a set of Longs beadlocks, they add 14lbs per wheel with hardware!!
After seafoaming the crankcase and the intake, changing the plugs and changin to 20w-50 oil, the smoke has stopped. I need to run it for a continous hour or so to really make sure shes not gonna smoke. But it does feel like i lost some power off the bottom end.
PCV is ordered, and i used some seafoam. Smoked like an sob!! Re did compression test after seafoam, and no change in numbers. Good thing? I'll get the new plugs in tomorrow with the PCV.
Okay. Looks like the PCV valve is supposed to slide into the rubber grommet on top of the 90 degree elbow that is on the side of the crankcase cover. The previous owner had a barbed fitting pressed in the grommet, there is no PCV valve on it. After pulling the barbed fitting out there is some...
There may have been a light amount of blue smoke on the last trail ride in August 2009, and around the driveway since then. Then on our trip last weekend it seemed to be a lot worse. May have been worse when pointing downhill. Did not have the big cloud of white smoke like others have...
1972 F motor, '75 Cali Spec Aisan Carb. After idling for a while i start to get blue smoke, and after a little while longer it starts to run rough with even more blue smoke. Did a compression test today with 2 different guages, one a screw in with rubber hose, the other was a rubber press on...
Youve made some cool sh!t for your rig!! Im especially likin the removeable tube fenders. With all the steel you got on that now, how much does your rig weigh? I think you need some 30 spline Longs for your next purchase:D
Im lookin to get a lot more flex in the rear of my 40. The stock 40 springs with the "spring flip" just aint cuttin it. Ive searched, but havent found what im after. Hopin for a writeup if anyone may have a link?? I want to run some long leaves, ive heard possibly chevy or wagoneer springs, and...
Ive searched. I got nothing. After i dovetailed my 40, i seem to get a lap full of mud and water when im wheelin in the rain, even with full doors and bikini top. I heard there was some pics on here a while ago where someone (maybe bobby long?) had attached molded fender flares off of a fork...
Youve never seen a dovetailed rig before?? Many comp rigs do it, along with lots of tube:D Its mainly to keep me from gettin wedged between rocks and trees, which will also keep the sheetmetal from gettin crumpled. There are a few guys on MUD that have done it.
Lots of metal came out:hillbilly:
I will be makin sliders and tube fenders in the near future. As for interior space, i didnt lose any since i cut on the outside of the wheelwells. Rear seat and fuel cell can still fit...but im ditchin the rear seat to save 30lbs.
Yeah, the rear bumper is...
Top pic is where i cut along the door. Next two are of the rear wheel well. Jenn was moving pretty fast to grab me another PBR so she blurred in the pic! Its a lot easier when you the second side. The sliders will be next, probably before the cage.
Still need to fully weld everything back together, but you get the idea. I narrowed the body 2.5 inches on each side at rear of door sill and i think it was 9" on each side at rear quarter panels, cant remember now:rolleyes: It took two full days to fully disassemble interior (cage, seats, fuel...
