Well, not including the initial shock and awe time, and the "Hey John, what the hell are you doing down there? Ya know it not a legal route!!" bullsh1t, it took over 2 hours. First it was make a plan, and I was too far down the hill to be in the conversations, so I had to chat on the CB for...
Yup. I am fine. Couple of months ago we did a TRAL run up Cherry Creek Road, aka trail 203. Just 4 rigs, makin good time. We have all been there multiple times. There were a few erosion features that required paying attention, but I never locked in axle all day. I was coming around a...
Correct. Unfortunately. I DO wish I still had the Piggy. But that's OK. I still have my moments of excitement. Recently I drove off a cliff, about 70 feet. Not only did it break a steering knuckle bolt or two, it also twisted my sector shaft. So guess who has a 105 steering sector now?
That rust pocket on the front fender USED to have a wide support member behind it. It is held I place by the pinch bent at the trailing edge of the fender. I rebuilt the whole thing on my driver's side fender. I think I bought the last available OEM replacement fender for my passenger side...
I have one of those tubs too, but it is the larger size. I store the leftovers from a gernaded LockRight from my front axle in it. Don't have the heart to bury it, yet........
Yea, even on brass that may be a wee bit much. On aluminum radiators in the 80's I usually go until the fluid starts looking dark/blackish. If it is just the core letting go, then think about a high density replacement core. I've had great luck with mine.
Tuff break on the radiator. I usually dilute the pool juice 50% and rock it back and forth to agitate it some. I dump and flush when I see it getting good color, then do the whole cycle again. Usually don't see any color gain on the second pass. Usually I don't leave it in for more than 5-10...
Yea, it ain't easy to let go, but I need to. Between being forced into early retirement and health issues, I need to thin the herd, and the 80 is better at filling my current needs, especially for long distance travel. I'm trying real hard not to slow down, but I do need to change lanes. John
I figure if I can wheel a SO Piggy for 25 years without flopping it, I am mighty lucky, or I ain't wheeling it hard enough. Good thing that broken Birfs, pinions, driveshafts, inner axles, LockRights, and radiators don't count. Unfortunately, I am planning on selling it before I can ruin my...
Looks like you have about 2-3 inches more than I do now empty. Mine has lost a couple of inches since I put them on. Looks like my springs are a bit beefeir than yours, so you may settle quite a bit. I think my shackles are longer than yours too.I've been on these springs for over 15 years...
Looks about right to me. After really flattening out my originals, I put on a set of SOR's HD springs. They sat pretty high. I welded in bump stops that would hit before I rubbed my 35s in the fenders and they work fine. They did sink a couple of inches after I put some miles on it with a...
Ya, me too. Thanks again. Just got back from 3 days of volunteer work for the BLM at an old abandon mine site way out in BFE, and I walk into the house and TA DA!! There it sits on the kitchen counter. Great way to finish a tuff weekend. John
