Build a Cruiser for a Fallen Soldier - Part Deux

I haven't been online in a few days and I saw this post tonight. Sort of an update. Ruth, my step-mom, died a year ago this past Feb and my dad, now 95, moved in with Jean and I. Not much has been done to the 40 since the first build. The illness of some family members and Dad moving in, has...

    The 20th GSMTR - May 16-22, 2011

Man, you guys sure are making hard not to call in "sick" for a few days to hit the trail. We're having to make up the week off due to the snow in Jan. Everything is in crunch mode here at school. Ya'll be sure and take and post photos. Drive safe everyone.

I can't make the event this year. I would like to buy a couple of shirts. Is that possible? Thanks.

Build a Cruiser for a Fallen Soldier - Part Deux

Hello Everyone, I just spoke to Steve and I see he's already posted. My Step-Mom (92) is in ICU. My Dad, (94 next week) can't be home alone. I appreciate everyone's understanding regarding the postponing of the build. I'm going home today for 2 days to check on my students and leave plans for my...

Hello Everyone, I just got off the phone with Katy, Darcey's wife. The shop will be ready for us next Friday. We can show up around 5:30 to get going. Also, remember my doors are always open to ya'll. See you in a week. Thank you again.

Bummer...school is still in session; a couple of weeks later and it would've been no problem. I really doubt if I could get leave approved this late in the year. I may get to come up for Sat. I had such a great time last year.

Build a Cruiser for a Fallen Soldier - Part Deux

I contacted Cam at Iron Pig; they're sending a skid plate. Also, anyone and everyone is welcome to stay at my house again. We have an extra bedroom downstairs (double bed), a couple of couches, and plenty of floor space. For those who may want the option of a hotel, I'll check to see what type...

Build a Cruiser for a Fallen Soldier - Part Deux

It was really good to see Larry and meet his youngest daughter. I really appreciate Steve for heading this up. I hope Jim is recovering from his injury. Our home will be open again to all who want to crash with us. I am in awe, once again, at the unselfishness and compassion of everyone...

Hamom for father of soldier killed in Iraq- Part Un

Man, it was good to see you. Hanna is really pretty. Jean told me to tell you, you should have come through Watkinsville to get to TN. You need to "drop" by more often.

I'm camping. I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon. I'm pulling the 40 with the 4runner. Jared and Katy are coming in a separate vehicle. I'm really excited about this trip.

Jared and I are enjoying driving it around Athens. It'll be nice when the 4 wheel drive works. There's some forest roads not too far from here we'd like to travel.

I just went to Man-A-Fre's web site and looked at a fan shroud. It doesn't look like it'd be hard to fab one. (I looked at fan shroud for 4plus aluminum v-8 radiator kit) I think I could use this as a guide to fab one up.

Thanks Jake. I really think the temp gauge is important whether there's an overheating problem or not.

I am a "fair" fabricator. If I had a shroud I could probably modify it to fit.

I can learn to burp the system, as long as I don't have to put the 40 on my shoulder and pat it. Also, I have a dremal tool and can cut down the fan to fit a shroud. Steve, I'll call you for burping instructions.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have no clue what this means. I think I might buy an aftermarket mechanical temp gauge for now. I'll just need to figure out where/ how to install it.

Hello Everyone, Here's a question regarding over heating. Since the temp gauge in the dash is for the 40, and the sending unit is from an 86 something, would that cause the temp gauge to "read" incorrectly? I can install an under dash temp gauge if needed. What do ya'll think?

Hello Everyone, California Rob, Landcrusher909, and his wife are here for a day or two. He/we worked on the brakes. He/we adjusted the brake pedal and the brake booster push rod. The brakes work now. They don't seem to bind and the truck is running great. Now that it's road worthy we'll be...
