My ADD and 9+ years at Trollhole’s is getting the best of me. I’m having a really hard time convincing myself to tack this all together and sending it as is knowing that it’s not right. I may need to invest in some cleco’s and spend the time making it right. Yes it’s a crawler, but I’m dumping...
I may be defeated in my dream for proper body lines. I’ve been staring at this thing for about 2 weeks, and the only way I see everything lining up correctly is to cut the bottom of the hatch off and stretch it down about 1/4-1/2 inch. I’m thinking that’s too much work and I’m pretty good with...
Slowly but surely making progress.
I had to take the opportunity to screw the old Crasin spoiler on, even if it can’t stay. The brackets and screws were already there…
Finished up the roof fitment, so I hung the rear hatch, and started mocking up the quarters more to see what fitment problems I’d have there. As it turns out, there are a couple. The dimensions of an 80 definitely change from front to back.
The body line below the window matches to the door...
Shortest roof ribs ever! Am I going too far? Probably. Is it turning out cool? I sure think so, and it’s my truck so no one else’s opinion matters.
I considered cutting down some rails and a roof rack, but after seeing it together, it would just be too short
I know!!! I keep trying to remind myself it’s a crawler, but then I get excited about how cool it’s looking. Screw it, im here and it’s happening.
In other news I was just starting to do some more trimming so I can fit things together properly, and I realized that Toyota wanted this to happen...
Rough mock up
I’m not 100% in love with the rear window opening from the side view, but this last picture is doing for me 💪🏻. I think I’ll continue on and shorten it up the last inch of so. Then I can wrap up the lower corners and figure out the rest of the cage.
I know you wished hatchet was a touch longer, but why? Head room? Seat room? Storage? Because of the angle of the rear hatch this should leave plenty of room for storage and seat clearance. My only concern is head room, especially with the cage being inside. I’m about to pull all the tube out...
I’m not sold on the idea. It makes the cab longer than I wanted it to be.
The rear hoop was supposed to be where the back was. Even if I modified or made a new hoop to fit the angle better and make the window as short as possible, it would be too long.
On the other hand, I’m a short guy, and...
Interesting fact, if you cut the C-pillar of and 80 out and flip it upside down, it’s really close to matching the body lines of the B-pillar on the opposite side.
I finally had some free time during the day with no rain, so I made some progress on the back of the cab and roof. I may end up making a new main hoop for the cage so I can move the rear window/wall forward and keep the cage tucked up tight. Overall I like where it’s all going.
Good news for everyone that came to the HAMOM and wanted to work on Chads vette… he’s decided to do a dry Jan, and this is what he’s occupying his time with. It will live!
B-pillar bars are coming along nicely. Once the other side is fit and tacked in, I’ll add a tube between the 2. After that I’m going to pause on the cage building and start to work on building the back of the cab.
