Glad to have you here. I apologize for any vitrol on my part. We have been trying for decades to do what you have done, and there is a lot of pent up frustration as a result.
I would like to see a picture of the documentation, or at least a picture of the truck with a handwritten time stamp.
But what is the endgame? Nobody is going to pay that kind of money without even seeing the truck AND the title. Ebay protections highly favor the buyer.
I still have no idea how you would get one through customs without a lot of paperwork.
Once a title is issued I think the registration hurdle is mostly past you.
You can insure anything for a price.
Whether or not an insurer will assume liability for your 79 hurting or killing someone on a public road because the 79's crumple zones are not up to US spec is a whole other story.
I would be interested in seeing the actual VIN plate and title. I know hotrodder types get really fast and loose with swapping frames and engines and interiors without "changing out" the 2" by 4" section of dash that holds the VIN plate.
If this 70 comes up as a Tacoma on the title I wouldn't...
Add me to the list of "How in the heck did they do that?"
My understanding was the only way to import a newer truck was to have it tested for crash safety and emissions, OR have Toyota produce documentation indicating that the truck complies with [model year] crash/emissions requirements...
