Pass, yall live in the south. The paint on the frame looks more like cover up than proper sand and repaint. It’s going to trap moisture instead and accelerate the rust. You could stick a scope inside to see what that looks like in the frame rail. Drop the spare, almost always the worst area...
Miles really don’t matter, it’s a 2UZ. Find one that’s been well cared for, the best condition not lowest miles. Look for fresh rubber, suspension components, no rust. Check out slees buyers guide.
If you stay below 02, 4 speed tranny, you should save coin. 03-05 had 5 speed, 06-07 have vvti...
I’d walk away no problem.
If the bottom is like that I assume above the spare tire is worse. It’s hard to put a price on rust, it’s typically worse than you think once you dig in.
Love the cloth, JDM import and RHD. Sweet 100 you found.
Not sure at what mileage people are looking for “collector” vehicles. Personally I like vehicles that are being driven regularly and well kept, mileage isn’t a big deal on a 2UZ.
I’m sure the price of this is steep, but remember rubber...
After reading the last thread, you have a USA 4.7, not the stock JDM. Same output, different assembly, feel free to search that.
Muffler looks like it has a large crack in it on the 3rd picture in your most recent post.
Scaling on the rear crossmember behind the bumper cover. How bad is the...
Haha! Yours and there’s another 99 LX that got restod in VA Beach are both clean. I’ve been holding out for 03-05 for 5 speed before the unicorn year prices. How are those 4 speeds on long highway drives? Also how’s dealing with lockers in the snow? I enjoy the ease of just putting my 4R in D...
Edit: After seeing the pics on my PC and not my phone it's not a southern LC. VA maybe. Something's up with the exhaust as well.
It's not bad but it will need love to prevent further decay.
I’d agree and I’m in the NE. Seeing the same 100s for sale across dealers and private party. Most are trying to hold their price steady though, not many lowered. There’s 2 I’d buy right now if they took about 2k off their listed prices.
Edit: Sell it to the fine mudder below :)
If it was me
1)do you need the suv? Can you get away with a cheap Camry like @krice118 sell for what you can and drive a beater to save some cash for a bit.
2) You need the suv? fix the brakes period (buy once cry once), deal with exhaust later...
I agree, if you want 10+ you should be looking for next to no rust. Its a huge pita to deal with once it’s past what that truck shows. You’ll never clean the inside of the rails and will slowly rust from the inside out even with protection.
If possible I’d wait and save up more cash and try to...
Walk away, you’ll find something nicer take your time.
East coast as well, if you see rust on anything in the engine bay you know the bottoms worse. Look up under the rear crossmember. Any hard lines under the vehicle as well; brakes and tranny lines.
