The struggle is after selling it, even at a profit what is out there that I'd rather buy?
The topic has been beaten to death but the 80 is new enough and old enough at the same time, so it checks a lot of boxes. When I bought mine in 2015 I was actually looking hard at 60's and then realized...
Ok here's a data point:
Bought my 94' in 2015 for $5,200, it had 270k miles at that time, now 316k. Not perfect but it had all maintenance records for the last 20 years and I bought it from the second owner who had it since 1996 @ roughly 70k miles. Garage kept, no rust, interior is not 100%...
365k miles with a running engine > non running and driving example
As you already have seen posting on here for sale can open many cans of worms. It's a nice looking truck, probably in the $6k range if fully operational, as it stands I'd say $2000 max, likely closer to $1800.
If its just a...
Some obvious clues:
- Price is unrealistically low for the posted mileage
- Only one photo
- Vague description
- No VIN number to verify mileage
- No contact phone number
- Same listing in many markets that are not close to each other
- V6 instead of inline 6, lack of seller knowledge
Note to self - if you are trying to sell pretty much any 80 over $20k the mud classifieds is probably not the best venue. On the other hand if you are selling in the $5-15k range and have mods, build threads, etc then it'll be much easier.
To the OP - nice looking truck, hope the sale goes well.
Looks nice however the bottom was recently painted black. The steering knuckles should be bare metal. Would have been nice to see a before and after on the undercarriage repaint.
Trailer hitch rust isn't necessarily indicative of rust in other areas. My 94' is what would be called "rust free" with the exception of the trailer hitch. The paint must be thinner and its more susceptible to abrasion and rust than other areas.
FYI we have a 1.5 year old and it was easy to load her in and out of the cruiser since birth. The extra height makes it easier than our other car since you don't have to lean over.
Going to be a hard sell in Seattle where vehicles don't normally rust. Perhaps you could take it back east on a road trip to visit Maine and it would be more competitive.
To compare I bought my 80 in the Seattle area is even though it had 270k miles at the time there was almost no rust.
