Nokians are made in Finland btw. they have a good track record of making ice capable tires in the great white north

    Steel Wheel Tech

Wow this steelie thread is popular, rigs look great guys! New buyers please be forewarned: equipping a stock or near stock US 80 series produces decreased fuel economy, increased braking distance, loss of (perceived) power, and slightly altered steering. miss my aluminums honestly, but the...

    255/80 R17 (33 x 10.50) options: Toyo or Nitto (A/T)?

went with the coopers! Thanks guys! Super stoked. Will be taking them off pavement this weekend to grab a load of wood. So far they are super smooth around town and look excellent. Tread is deeeeeep on this tire

    Steel Wheel Tech

Hip hip hooray I finally got my steelies mounted! A flat in Death Valley was good fuel for the fire in convincing my financial manager (wife) to go ahead with the new shoes. This was the last trip for them anyways. Went with another set of Coopers, ST Maxx this time. Amazing how an 80 can make...

The ugly side of steel wheels!

So we all know they are heavy but I also learned first hand about their ability to rust. when the tires came off of my set it revealed some of the car guys worst friend: RUST, flaky, pitted, and nasty. I spent my spare hours here and there this week grinding, sanding, and treating my steelies in...

    255/80 R17 (33 x 10.50) options: Toyo or Nitto (A/T)?

Nittos on nationwide back order :( st maxx in stock. I think these are too agrressive for my taste though. Reports of rough ride/Bad noise after wearing too. At 3k a year maybe not a bad thing... I would add that the st maxx were the tires I spec’d for the 40 after reading an overwhelming...

    255/80 R17 (33 x 10.50) options: Toyo or Nitto (A/T)?

I have 5 choices from local dealer in 255/80x17 and I have narrowed it down to the Nitto ridge grapplers (1st choice) or the less sexy Toyo A/Ts. I prefer all terrain tires for quiet ride and handling on road. I travel to remote places with heavy loads, and put my tires through the harshest...

    Lightweight wheel options under 23lbs?

the OEM aluminums from Toyota in the 90s are regarded as being very light weight. Mine are marked 15x7 JJ(10). They are pictured below What model is this for and why do you want under 23lbs?

Anyone running the NEW Nitto RIDGE Grappler

so the overall consensus here is that these do infact drive like an all-terrain tire despite the seemingly more aggressive side wall and hybrid tread pattern? The only question remains is ride quality degradation after 30-40k. Thoughts? I am very excited about my 31x10.50x15 to 255x80x17...

    Steel Wheel Tech

Here is the stamp on the J17x 7.5 that came on old Tundras and fit 80s and 60s. I’m pretty sure they want about $200 for these from dealers. They are/were much more popular abroad but that’s going to cost even more unless you are a savvy importer. I don’t think they were very popular OEM but...

    Steel Wheel Tech

That Iron pig is lookin stout @wngrog! I would add the price point of steelies is another plus I forget to mention... I plan on finding a gray in single stage industrial to finish off the 15s, but I won’t go off topic again ;)

    Steel Wheel Tech

Cool, thanks OP I’m a big fan of steelies always have been. The appeal for me is that they are oem, they look tough, and foreign models always seem to have them. Dad and I went with the OEM 15s for the ‘79 because they were half the price of City Racers and we are going all stock for the resto...

Trying to match a powder coat color

Just scored 4 powder coated steelies (17”) and on the hunt for a 5th, I will need to match the color though. I’m guessing there aren’t that many light grays out there. Seems to me this was done atleast 5 years ago. Anybody know this color? Or even the PO, came from an 80 owner in Bay...

    Bronze wheel Pics thread

Anybody "bronzed" their OEM wheels? Specifically looking for Early 90s 15x6JJ rims (like on my 1992 FJ80). Kinda sweet, but not sure. Definetly newer and unique. Dont like gold, shooting for a dark bronze Looking to paint them a dark color, not black. Gun metal maybe...and no, I cant afford Methods

    Anybody tried a Grabber X3?

I have the new AT2s on my super duty and love them. Excellent performance on and off road so far, can’t speak on wear life yet only had them for 5k. 10 ply too. Did a bunch of research and these are a very well reviewed General tire. $650 out the door. Disappointed they don’t come in 255x85x16.

Aussie OEM steel rims paint colors

anybody know what the paint code is for the grayish Aussie steel wheels? I’ve seen what looks like a gray-green tint, as well as white and a light gray. Looking to paint some steelies soon and want to copy the Aussie look (I believe on their split rims). Open to ideas. Also, curious if Toyota...
