^^ I'm planning on doing the same with a vacuum switch.
I don't have all of the HAC components on my truck which was desmogged by the PO so I don't really have experience with those components.
Basically you can apply vacuum to the large vacuum port on the distributor for added timing advance.
Sleegers makes a DOT approved dual tank setup for the toyota frame that mounts behind the stock tank. I think its like 700bux and gives you like 26gal of usable fuel. I think its the 13x13x32 SEUW model.
so far no boom's on my setup...wonder if Mace or any of the others running propane has had any issues.
I'm using the Impco model E and 425 mixer which seems to work well with the 60. There are lots of options for propane mixing and some are EFI controllable.
^^^- correct the VW gets up to 100C at around 8-9 miles or so of my 14 mi commute to work with only 4qrts of oil.
Now the LC does have a "oil cooler" which i would expect acts as a "oil warmer" after the coolant comes up to temp.
I'm anxious to see this rear platform, drawer storage and tank setup.
What are the prices on Propane like in Indiana? I haven't checked for some time now.
I have a break-even spreadsheet somewhere that takes into account the cost of the system and fuel prices if you are interested in...
Yup, you need to go at least 20 miles on the highway before the oil temp is high enough to get the water to boil off.
I wish my truck had a factory oil temp gauge in it like my Rabbit had.
If you are really going to daily drive it I would look into a diesel option. A rebuilt 2F will still only get you 13-15mpg.
There is a thread around here where George (valley hybrids) has some good comments on which diesel engines work well with the 60.
I wanted to update this thread with the latest status of my propane setup.
I recently I had JimC rebuild a stock carb and dizzy for my truck and I have accumulated all of the components to do dual fuel. Last weekend I ran a new hard fuel line from the carb down to the stock fuel pump and put in...
Yup, I'm prepared now for the 4+ prices with my dual fuel propane setup on the 60 and the dual fuel WVO setup for the Benz.
What are your plans for the tank placement? I have accumulated now 4 propane tanks 2- 43lbs and 2- 33lbs. I can go about 90 miles or so on a 43lb tank.
I'm currently working on a dual fuel propane setup on my 60. I just added the fuel cut-off switches to both the gas an LP lines last weekend to my rig. All that I have left to do is to hook up the mixer and vacuum switch to add timing advance.
I'm not sure what all it takes to make it work with...
I drive mine daily throughout the winter and on summer trips camping/vacation.
I used to drive a VW Rabbit GTI daily but then got a MB 300SD diesel which is now my summer daily driver.
