    Towing a 62?

Put the tcase in neutral and pull the rear driveshaft? Just pull the rear bolts and tie or bungee it up out of the way... that's what we and friends have done on the 40s.... 350/th350 in this one...

    Mechanic says no to FJ62

An 80s Toyota EFI vehicle is kind of perfect for learning EFI. They generally work very well because they're pretty simple, a major fault is usually obvious and a minor fault usually throws a code without stranding you. Further there are tons of DIYers who have been working on these systems...

    1fz-fe into an fj62

From what I've read (could be wrong but did have a 93).. The Fj80 shares engine/trans with the 62, the 93-94 shares trans but has a 1fz. The 95-97 changed the transmission. The 93-94 had quite a bit of solenoids - which was one of the biggest issues of our old FZJ, but I wonder if that...

    Thoughts On This Rig

The electric work on the passenger side is an aftermarket MSD 6A ignition control unit and there's an aftermarket coil. There's also an alarm horn there. If I'm seeing things right- the roof gutters look like you can see the spot welds under the paint - which shouldn't be the case as there...

Has anyone completely cut off the roof gutter?

I wasnt doing a bead, just a light tap of the trigger and touching the welder to the gutter burned through. I was able to successfully clean up (with the welder) some spots above the B pillar. I did a LOT of work with this on a 40 series.

Has anyone completely cut off the roof gutter?

Sections of the roof above the gutter are bad, some of the sections parallel to the ground (in the gutter) are bad. I attempted to weld shut some of the bad sections but even my Lincoln 140 at the lowest voltage burned right through the gutter. It's a poor design because the gutter being a...

Has anyone completely cut off the roof gutter?

To give you an idea.... The headliner could stay so long as you do it in sections. The lines to do it are there. As a reminder.... the body, roof cap, and gutter are 3 separate entities that are basically spot welded then seam sealed together. .

Has anyone completely cut off the roof gutter?

As the title says... and I'm curious. It seems that the design is quite poor, frankly. Looking up automotive roof gutter rust and repair - in the custom world it's common to just cut them off and allow the water to run down the side. Curious if anyone has done that. I am in the middle of...

Bringing FJ60 to dealerships... bad idea?

I cant like this enough. Find your way to the 100 series sections where people are getting quotes north of $20k because the dealership essentially doesnt want to work on an otherwise good vehicle. Maybe I shouldn't be saying this but oh well... GM of a local Toyota dealership has his own...

FJ62/FJ60 Tune up - Iridium sparkplug question

Plugs are plugs. The material they're made is what makes the last significantly longer or shorter from wear of the spark. Copper is softer and as such, generally has an expected lifespan of 30-50k miles. Platinum has a lifespan of around 50-100k miles, and iridium is higher. As someone else...

    0 and 2 on FJ60s

Your ambitions/wants are odd, a bit. If I was looking for a 60 my next thought wouldn't be a 100 series Lx. 100 series are great - and I personally really like the LX (have an 01 currently, also had an 00 for a short stint). However 60 series and LX470s have almost nothing in common short of...

Photo request - 62 with a headliner removed

Here's a side profile. Essentially if the seam sealer cracks, dries, or fails in any way - water can get in.

Now this guy is in the 60 series threads? New to me, 1988 FJ62

Well this happened..... Bought a brake bender and some body hammers. I'm not a body guy, but I will be able to do better than the previous fix....

Photo request - 62 with a headliner removed

I've since made my own "slices" as well but not nearly as far as the above. I cannot believe Toyota designed the roof this way. It's almoat destined to fail. It's hard to see in the above cross section, but there is seam sealer between the BOTTOM of the gutter rail and the body as well. The...

No Start , Jumped +B and Fp, now starts fine without jumper wire

You are bypassing 2 things when you jumper b÷ and FP (which provided power directly to the fuel pump). One is the air flow meter. It has to be open far enough (via vacuum - aka the engine pulling air in kind of like if you were to suck on a straw) to send a signal to turn on the fuel pump...

Photo request - 62 with a headliner removed

For those who have removed the headliner... amid seeing this right that the windshield and back glass have to come out? Also assume there is no salvaging the headliner?

How to Remove FJ60 Rear Quarter Glass

Just went through this with a decades-long pro who is a friend of my wife's. First remove the chrome trim on the outside. Run a larger gauge pick around the rubber on both the inside and out. Have a friend help... one get in the back, start at a corner and use a pick or screwdriver to push...

Photo request - 62 with a headliner removed

Slightly confused.... Is the roof double layered steel with a gap between? As in - if you were to tap on the steel on the inside is that the same panel directly on the top exterior? I have rust along the gutters but it seems theres another layer beneath... essentially trying to determine if I...

Photo request - 62 with a headliner removed

As the title states - trying to see what the sheetmetal looks like without the headliner in.... searched but little came up (lots of discussions, few photos). TIA
