Haha. The picture is a bit misleading isn't it? The brake line is in the center port. The bleeder is above. So that part is OK. I was more concerned about the added length of the hose and if there's any problem with it being where it is...close to the shock, etc. And that it is meant to bypass...
So, I managed to get the TRE put back together using a floor jack to lightly hold it in place. I ordered new 555 TREs but the ones already on the truck actually seem OK. Anyway, I'll be ready when they start to go...or when I feel like replacing them.
Installed the Marlin seal. I hope it holds...
Thanks Spike. I was wondering about the double groove as well. I will order the Marlin seals and see how that goes.
A couple of other things have happened on the re-build that I wonder if you or anyone can offer additional advice:
1. I put the shims that were on the knuckle back on the way they...
Hi
I've torn into a knuckle rebuild on a 84 FJ60. There are grooves on the front axle. They are not too deep (fingernail does not get caught). But I'd love to have someone's opinion about whether I should overdrive (or underdrive?? do I understand that some people do not drive the seal in the...
Dear All
sorry it's been some time. So...because of work I had to leave the truck for a bit. Here is a video of the pinion flange once I took the dust cover and seal off to replace the seal. So much play. Is this normal?
I drained the diff oil and there was quite a metallic sludge attached...
Hi All
After some searching, this part moving around is just the dust cover of the companion flange (I think). Is a loose dust cover something to worry about if there is no play in the pinion flange / bearing? Or is a loose dust cover indicative of a larger problem? Or can I just somehow affix...
Hi All
Was hearing a metallic noise coming from under vehicle. Disconnected the rear driveshaft to start troubleshooting. Noticed the pinion flange was wonky - see video below. Maybe instead of 'wonky' I should be more specific. It appears as if side of the flange that is, I think, supposed to...
Update...
The local Toyota dealer will replace the bumper, end cap, mounting brackets, fender, etc...do the paint and everything. All with OEM parts. They quoted a price of ~2000 USD. I think I will just go ahead with this...even though the patina will be completely different. It will all be...
Thank you @g-man for this good advice all around. Yes, it was the only vehicle we have (even though I know the first thing I should do when I buy an old cruiser is to also buy another car). So a rental will definitely be part of the deal. And, yes, I figure they will try to claim it's totaled...
Thanks everyone for your replies.
@FJACS It sort of went immediately to insurance...but it will be on theirs...not mine.
I've been looking at the parts sites to see what is available. We'll see what the adjuster says if they even bother to come look.
@Don Pedro thanks for the suggestion of...
Hi All
so the 1984 FJ60 got side swiped yesterday. Significant other was driving. Fault was the semi-truck driver. Any advice on best replacement equipment? Here's the damage:
Hi All
Just for a bit of closure...I finally got around to pulling the old air pump and installing the TLC air pump idler pulley. The problem with the air pump was intermittent but I figured it was on its way to seizing at some point. The install of the idler pulley was pretty straightforward...
I just installed some in my 60 here:
fj60 rear retractor seatbelt install
I drilled one hole in the driver's side to mount the retracting unit and avoid the wires running to the back. On the passenger side, I did nothing and used an existing hole in the frame.
