    Transfer case output spline wear?

I replaced everything, but I also went with the 10% OD sumo gears.

    Transfer case output spline wear?

Ended up going with all new gears. It was a bit of a pain to do on the ground, but it sounds amazing now that it's all back together. Thanks everyone.

    Transfer case output spline wear?

Finally got the case split today. I think I found the culprit of the whine. The teeth on the idler gear that interfaces with the input appear to be pretty worn. Perhaps if the input gear moved a lot because of worn splines, it could wear the teeth like this. The other gears look okay, bearings...

    Transfer case output spline wear?

Yeah that's possible given some of the other stuff the PO did to the truck. When I get the case open I'll post some photos of the teeth. Is this something that can be inspected visually? Maybe a good excuse for a regear ;)

    Transfer case output spline wear?

No, the rear diff was disassembled and inspected- it all looked good. Also put it up on a lift and listened to the diff and it was quiet.

    Transfer case output spline wear?

About 200k mi on the case. Bearings are fresh. It was rebuilt ~10k mi ago with a new input gear and new H55f in front of it. It whined before the rebuild and I expected it to fix the whine, but there was no change. I think the new gear could cause some noise, but the whine is exactly the same as...

    Transfer case output spline wear?

I'll check it out. I have done everything you describe except checking idler/thrust washer clearance. Will check that out this afternoon. Thanks for the tips and FSM reference!

    Transfer case output spline wear?

Thanks for setting me straight, very helpful. I believe it was in high when it was filmed which makes sense with what you are saying.

    Transfer case output spline wear?

Been chasing a loud whine in transfer case along with a fair bit of slop/lash. I just started pulling it apart and it appears that the output gear splines are pretty loose on the shaft. I have heard that the output gears and bearings are not supposed to be tight on the output shaft, but this...

    Oxygen sensors

Wow yup, that was a brutal install. Had to use an extractor socket and cut one of the sensor shields off in order to remove the old sensors. Thanks for the info.

    Oxygen sensors

Any install issues with the new sensors? Did they solve your emissions issues? I am about to order the same sensors and I am also in CA.

    Brake Master cylinder Cap

I just installed one of Matt's caps on my 62. Perfect fit, plug and play. Couldn't ask for a better solution to an old cracked cap.

Well now I'm not so sure the axle seals are good after all. Sorta smells like gear oil

FJ62 New Sway Bar Links - Angle Wrong ?

Hey Old Nick - thanks for taking the time to snap a pic. Yup, knuckles are definitely leaking... I don't think the axle seal is leaking though so I'll probably keep them full of moly grease for now.

FJ62 VSV Broken - Replacement Parts?

Hi all, I recently acquired my first LC and have been working on baseline maintenance with the help of existing mud threads. As I was going through the 5mm vacuum lines, I noticed that one of the VSVs mounted on the driver's wheel well appears to be broken. Based on the FSM, I think this VSV is...
