We have replaced the 40 rear axle withe a 60 series one. The diffs are interchangeable so use what matches the front. You will need to fab up a way to get the 60 series cables to work with the 40 series parking brake lever. I have done 2 of these so far.
Does seem a bit low on mpg. What kind of speeds were you trying to run? What Holly are you running? BAck in the good old days with my FJ 55, I had a worn out 78 sedan 350 with a Holly 450 4 barrel on it. I got 12-14 hiway with it as long as I stayed around 65 mph. It would run good and...
So, have you done a valve check/adjust recently? We have had several
Dying F/2F motors come into the shop only to leave running healthy after only setting the valves.
2x this. I am way past 60, but if I were in your shoes I would go the whole 9 yards. You have the inventory, you have the opportunity, you have the chance to start wheeling with a totally fresh engine, so just go and do it. Have fun with it and enjoy it for a long, long time. John
Not sure about exact production date, but somewhere in 1985 they changed from the shorter early H42 to the longer/later mode. I think this may make a difference in the mounting points for the transmission support bracket. Also, IIRC, about that time the power steering box mounting pattern...
The asking price would be expected for a similar low mileage, super clean FZJ 80/ LX 450, 1996/7.
When/if you test drive it, take it up the biggest, steepest hill you can find on the hiway.
That pretty well covers it. Are you running a steering stabilizer? I don't want to get into the merits and demerits of them, but it may help control the problem.
First place I look for the cause is spring bushings, as they can die/split/fall apart pretty fast. Trail use can also cause...
When you put on extended spring shackles on the front axle, it has the effect of moving your caster towards the negative side. If you were at 3 degrees positive originally, then you might be a lot closer to zero or so, depending on the length of the new shackles. The shims sound return the...
Also, length may help ID these babies. They do seem fairly thick, so I am guessing they would have a heavy boost, like 1000 or 1500 pounds, versus some of the light ones that run about 500.
Battery cables can deteriorate internally without any visible signs. It can be where the strands enter the battery clamps, or it can be mid point inside the sheathing. I have had water/moisture settle in the lowest part of the cable and corrode it to the point of failure. If you have good...
It would be much easier t recommend realistic recoverly gear if we knew where you wheel, what, you wheel, and how you wheel. So far I think it is a good bet you are driving a 60 series, but otherwise, we know nothing of your travel needs. John
