Retapping brake caliper mount threads on truck?

I finally got around to doing this job the day after Thanksgiving. I went the Helicoil route to keep the OEM thread size and the job was easier than I expected. The things I found helpful were to remove the shock and also the sway bar end link. This gave the clearance necessary to fit the...

Just ordered 31's and need tranny cooler help

I did the B&W 70268 since it was cheap and available on Amazon Prime. Installation was easy with the included brackets with just a few bends. Because I wanted to make the installation (mostly) reversible I made just one cut in the existing cooler lines, kept them in place and spliced in the...

Retapping brake caliper mount threads on truck?

Great, thanks for the tips guys. I like the lockwire approach, too. I guess I'll give it a go with an original-size Helicoil and see what happens.

Retapping brake caliper mount threads on truck?

Stripped threads for the front brake caliper mounts is a common issue on our trucks (see: here here here here here here). It has happened to me, and I'm looking for guidance that I haven't been able to find in any other threads. I'm pretty much settled on the Helicoil approach. My question...

    FJ62 steering wheel diameter?

Pretty dang close to 16" on my 89. Perhaps 16 1/8".

    Tranny fluid level-fj62-and new pix!

Are you sure you aren't losing it via a leaky input shaft seal to the transfer case? Beautiful rig.

89 FSM - Are these the same?

Ha ha -- my eyes aren't that good! It must have been too early and my response came out a little rough. I checked my FSM, which is green like in your bottom photo, and it has the same pub number. Cheers.

89 FSM - Are these the same?

Considering they are the same publication number (RM120U), I'd say that's a safe bet.

    Stolen tan 1989 FJ62 SEATTLE

OK, now for the full details. I've stayed close to my phone over the past week waiting for a call from an unknown number with info about the truck. Of course, I was at the climbing gym for two hours and SPD calls then, telling me an officer found the truck (in the 5000 block of 7th Ave NE in...

    Stolen tan 1989 FJ62 SEATTLE

UPDATE:: The truck was recovered late this afternoon. It appears to be in good shape and I was able to drive it home. I'm too tired to write the full post-mortem so I'll post that tomorrow. A huge thanks to everyone who provided support and a lookout for me. Now I'm going to go have a...

    Stolen tan 1989 FJ62 SEATTLE

spotcruiser: Still nothing, but I'm not letting that get me down. Most people I've talked to have said it has taken at least a week or two for recovery. I should also mention that there was no broken glass or any other evidence of the theft. These guys are using bump keys or whatever to get...

    Stolen tan 1989 FJ62 SEATTLE

Thanks so much everyone for the support. Actually, the overwhelming reaction to my post was the kick I needed to do what I should have on day 1 and get a supporting membership here. The SPD website says 86% of all cars stolen in Seattle are recovered, so I guess there is some hope. I'll...

    Stolen tan 1989 FJ62 SEATTLE

update: the truck has been found (see below for more). thanks, everyone! Hi guys After just six great months of LC ownership (and uncountably many Mud threads read), my truck was stolen from in front of my house today (7/26/11), sometime around mid-day/early afternoon. It was parked in...

    Slouching driver seat repair

Wow, great info-thanks BG_TX. Just to provide closure, I brought the truck to the dealer, who sent me to an upholstery shop. They said the right rear support was just bent and they bent in back into place. The auto glass place paid for it so I didn't ask questions, and it's looking good...

    Slouching driver seat repair

Thanks Ed for the offer. The windshield place says they'll pay to fix it, so it's at the dealer getting a repair quote now. Is it too much to hope for an NOS seat? :)

    Slouching driver seat repair

Hi guys The driver's seat in my 89 FJ62 has recently developed a slouching problem. The upper-right corner is set a little farther back than the upper-left corner, so I'm doing the shoulder lean when I'm driving. I'm guessing this is due to 209,000 miles of wear and tear, and also the...

Who should I go to get my manifolds milled in the Seattle area?

The exhaust manifold on my turbo Volvo was warped and I got Action Machine, behind Action Auto on Aurora in Shoreline, to mill it. It was around $85 (4 cyl, but they charged extra because it was warped beyond some threshold). They were quick and I'm pretty happy with the results.
