Yup that's my pile. Still have it. Had it listed for about a month or so but changed my mind. Planning the next batch of mods. I don't do done very well. :bang: I really need to get it out and wheel it.
Out of curiosity, is this a CA smog legal swap? I was always under the impression the donor vehicle had to be of the same classification (3/4 ton 4x4 truck could only receive a motor that originally came in a 3/4 ton 4x4 truck)
Just curious as I've entertained the thought of an LT1 swap as well.
Current update...........absolutely nothing. It's been sitting on the trailer on the side of the house since I got off Dusy last August. You'd think working at an offroad shop I'd wheel a bit more frequently.
At any rate I've got our shop run coming up in a month at the Rubicon. I've...
The trans in question is quite possibly designated an R151 but not the same one most associate with the'86-'87 Turbo Mini Trucks. Most would refer to your trans as an R150F.
In reality, Toyota uses a number designation to cover only a span of 10 years. The R151 designation for the '80s was...
I chose the R150F because I wanted a true driveable 5 speed. I had access to the resources so we made it happen. I'm no longer a fan of the "granny low" first gear. I like having a first gear that has legs and decent ratios between gears that allow the motor to pull a bit without winding it...
Sorry for the delayed response. Been a bit crazy lately and haven't been on in a while.
For the 14 Bolt I found that the long side (passenger) shaft on a factory axle is right about 6" longer than the factory short side (driver). For the housing to be offset and re-use the factory shafts...
After a lot of trial and error, I think it's finally narrowed down to a slew of bad fuel pumps. The original seemed to go out on me on a wheeling trip. I changed it with a generic electric that was available at the nearest parts store. Problems still persisted so I changed some lines around...
Depends if it's a V6, a 4 cyl auto, a 4 cyl w/G58, or a 4 cyl with a W56. The master cylinder and calipers would definitely be worthwhile to grab. If you plan to do some suspension work on your 60, you could grab the Runner's front driveshaft for the CV.
The wheel seals fit solid axle pickups,FJ40, FJ55, FJ60, and FJ70. The seal for the pickup differential will work on the 3 and 4 speed cruiser case front output only. There currently is no MC seal for a split case.
No problem with binding. There is less than a 2% difference between the front and rear and they do just fine. I've seen guys running up to a 6-7% difference with no issue.
The trans is awesome. I messed up when gearing the truck and somehow convinced myself that 4.88s were the way to go. It did decent but lugged a bit in 5th especially with a head wind. I re-geared to 5.29s up front and 5.38s in the back(what I originally talked myself out of in favor of the 4.88s...
If you loosen the clamps on the hose you can twist the hose a bit to raise it up away from the pulley. Mine was close too and I didn't loose a drop of water when I rotated the hose either.
I then modded my original 60 pulley and now thees tons of room again.
