Last pieces of the puzzle. New OEM swaybar bushings, new OEM fender skirts, and KYB shocks (because I tired of OME).
Only thing left is to pick out new tires and I’m done with this build and putting it up. I’m leaning Toyo AT3s for general overall drivability.
It wasn’t the original plan but I couldn’t stomach the next owner of the 60 getting a rig with a leaking knuckle. Both sides were completely rebuilt with all new OEM gaskets, new OEM trunion bearings (wheel bearings were perfect), new OEM rotors and pads. Cleaned and repainted the bits. Pressed...
Time for the 60 to get some dent removal love. It’s freaking amazing how many little dents he’s removed. Some I didn’t notice because if my s***ty eyesight. He wanted to drill some access holes…hard pass. But he has worked his sorcery and it’s looking so bad ass. I think the value just popped up...
Special thanks to @tom_shunpiker for sending me a rubber distributor cover that I was always missing. It cleaned up perfectly. Engine feels more complete.
Also thanks to CityRacer LLC for having the replacement air intake hose. I thought I’d never see an OEM replacement again.
Still can’t...
Time to do the hubs. After degreasing they were vapor honed. Before painting both the dial and the surround a Qtip dipped into red grease was used on the lettering and the arrows.
Black for the surround and a gold/copper that was as close as I could find to match the original. After paint...
Another thing that bugged me that I didn’t want the eventual new owner to deal with was my front diff was leaking little globs on the floor. Took apart the knuckles and driveshaft and then pulled the front diff. Gear oil was thankfully devoid of shiny metal bits. The ring gear and pinion...
The plan is still to let the 60 go. But one of the things that bugged me about the truck is the carburetor. Since I’ve been driving it for so many years I just “know” how to baby the throttle/choke as needed to drive. This learned behavior doesn’t translate well to the new owner 😜
The carb was...
Same HJ61 with the 12H-T in the shop. This time the customer requested added a pre-filter to the fuel supply line. He asked for it to be quick and dirty. I only agreed to that because he had a time crunch and didn’t need anything fancy 🙄
Custom 3-point mounting bracket was made. It’s a little...
This is just a tip for those trying to hunt down a 2F, 3FE, H motor idler pulley. This 12HT’s idler pulley was screaming. Problem is it’s a discontinued part. There is the 3FE idler that can be used but availability can be a day or two away. This truck needed to get out of town so I pulled a 1FZ...
There is plenty of discussion about when you should replace/clean your air filter. There is a great study done that shows that dirty air filters actually increase the effectiveness of the filtration. No denying that data. But there comes a saturation point where your air/filter ratio gets...
Customer’s HJ61 is back at the shop after another shakedown. So many issues from the scummy importer to deal with.
New owner uses this truck for what it’s intended for. Which is cool! But also stressful given the vehicle 😳
On a future trip he will be traveling and be in areas up North that...
Worked on a customer’s HJ61
Ever heard of someone talking about a “cold solder joint” when referring to a circuit board or maybe talking about the AC amplifier or other PCBs in your Land Cruiser? Well a customer’s sub tank controller in the sunroof panel (HJ61) wasn’t working. Luckily I have a...
