Yep, I'm going to order the cleaning kit on the next pay check. Flying to the UK next week... so I'm just relieved the engine starts and it was "only" that.
Btw, I tested the fuel pressure later last night and I have 46 psi at the tank side of the fuel filter and at the cold start injector.
Well. Lets just say I'll be investing in a long range tank sooner than I thought. Mine is pretty nasty... cleaned the sump area as best as I could. Cleaned the fuel pump out and blasted the fuel line with 90 psi.
Truck runs!
Inside the sump. Notic that it is also dry? The tube that lets...
Got the pressure gauge. After 14 minutes it reached 12 psi in front of the fuel filter.
Im going to put money on the strainer being clogged. Then blasting the fuel line with air once I get the pump out.
Oreillys has a fuel pressure test gauge with the correct fittings, m12 and m8 banjos, that I'll be picking up tonight. It should at least help diagnose the fuel issue or confuse me further. $118 refundable deposit for the rental though....
From my limited understanding, the fuel pump only runs when the key is turned to ign for as long as its needed to build pressure in the system, right? Hence the test procedure to turn the fuel pump on in the diagnostic port, which only works when the key is in the on position.
There was...
it was my mistake.. I ran same size for pressure and return on my conversion (3fe in a 64 FJ45)..
Stupid mistake on my part when i ran new lines down the frame..
BUT.. lemme look tonight.. i have an FJ62 fuel pump assembly sitting in the garage.. I would like to confirm if they are the...
I replaced with a Beck Arnley unit, it was stamped made in Japan, which in my previous experience really has been "good enough."
I drained the fuel tank (all 19 gallons) and put in 5 gallons of fresh gas after I replaced the fuel pump.
I replaced the fuel filter under the hood (Wix brand) and...
Last night I put in cold start injector that I spent some time cleaning. Still no start.
What I don't understand is (and I didn't mention this earlier) is that the truck tried starting right after I installed the fuel pump but it definitely seemed like the timing was off then. It ran for a few...
.
Im 99% sure im not 180* out. When setting, cyl 1 gave its puff and I was able to touch the piston top with a screw driver and it was at that point I put the timing needle on the TDC line (not the 7* mark).
I just reconfirmed that I am not getting fuel to the return line via the fpr but still...
Yes, I've even jumpered the plugs on the diagnostic port under the cab meaning the fuel pump runs continuously with key on.
I put 5 gallons of fresh fuel in the tank after I replaced the fuel pump. This should be plenty to test the system right?
Gentlemen,
I come to you with much frustration. I recently completed a refresh and reseal on a 3FE. The trucks original engine was seized from a blown head gasket. It has not been run for about 5 years as of last week.
I removed the engine and replaced all seals and gaskets, minus the front...
---- IOW you can be off a tooth yet the distributor looks to be in the correct position. And making those one-tooth distributor gear changes can be frustrating because you have to turn the oil pump drive just the right amount.-----
Wait a tick... that idea is new to me. Do I need to be...
