I'm planning on pretty much the same swap in my 83 "FJ65" project. I have a healthy 6.9L Navistar, T19 trans and t-case out of a 87 F250. I really want to use the stock Toyota axles(beefed up a bit), but I'm wondering about the offset diff and the Ford t-case; I guess I'll cross that bridge...
Very cool, I started a very similar build up on my 83 FJ60 but haven't any time to work on it lately. Do you have any pics of the floor area behind the seats, this is where I'm running into problems with mine.
For the headliner fabric along the "A, B, C and D" pillars, remove the pressed on rubber trim that goes around each door opening, there are a few small metal clips you can remove with a flat-head screwdriver or vise grips. The headliner fabric is held in place with adhesive in addition the the...
Rookie, That really sucks, I'm sorry to hear of your missfortune. I agree with everyone else who stated that vandals should be dealt with using extreme and strict punishment, they should be made to regret their actions every single day of the rest their lives. Best of luck sorting this out.
I also agree that buying an entire truck would make the whole process easier. Realistically, I think the 12 valve Cummins would be much easier to transplant into a cruiser, slightly less electronics to deal with than the later 24 valve engines. BTW, I like my Dodge, pretty comfy, tows well...
The Cummins equiped Dodge pickups (6BT, I believe) used the NV4500 from around 90 to some time around 01/02 with very few reliability issues; it will easily handle the torque of the 6bt, that's what it was designed to handle.
The early Cummins 6BT's in the Dodges were the 12 valve units, in...
I do a good amount of business with Coyote Cruisers and Off Road LLC( www.coyotecruisers.com ) in Fort Collins, Co. John(the owner)is a good guy, prices are good and they can get you pretty much any part you need.
I'm having the rockers, fender flares and bed done on my tow rig, the wheel wells and interrior floor of both my cruisers; it works awsome and I kinda dig the look. For reference, most professional shops around here charge anywhere from $400 - 700 to do the rockers on a crew cab/ext cab FS trucks.
First and foremost, do a search under diesel conversions, there are a ton of posts addressing this. I've never heard of a Duramax in a FJ60, The guys at Wardens off road (now defunct) in Placerville, Ca were going to put one in a HJ47 Troopie, thats the only time I've seen that conversion...
The dolley may only be rated for 4300lbs, the rear axle of the tow rig supports a significant portion of the vehicles weight, the dolley only carries part of the cruisers weight. A trailer would be way too much weight and very unsafe. The HJ60 is capable of towing a 60 with a tow bar or...
My parents passed the bug down to me, they had a few FJ40s, a FJ45, a FJ55 and a FJ60. I've had a 75 V8 40(my first cruiser), a 65 & a 77 FJ40, both ended up being stripped for parts, my 79 FJ40 project and an 83 FJ60/FJ65 wannabe, project rig. I've also driven two Tacomas (an 98 and a 01) and...
Very cool pics Charger, I'd like to see a few of the completed cruiser. Isn't that the strip mining excavator they had to move/drive overland from one mine to an other over in Germany, supposedly the cost in terms of $$$$ and time, to dissasembling it and truck the parts far out weighed driving...
To add to what Cruisin'Carolina previously stated, The Toyotas are built to thrive in some of the most punishing environments on earth, the Australian outback, deserts of the Middle East, etc, etc. While I haven't visited most of these locations, from TV, books and talking with people who have...
I had some on my Tacoma, I got them through www.wheelersoffroad.com
Look under Toyota, then under Tacoma, and under wheels; they should be listed right there.
