With being concerned about budget costs, I'm surprised you're not put off by the gas mileage. I bought my LX 5 years ago and put 60k miles on it. I had about 6k in maintenance costs, which included a timing belt. While many components are very robust. I had a couple years that I barely spent any...
By all means, it's your vehicle, but I'd think carefully before I dismissed the backup camera. You'll wonder how you lived without it, especially with the tiny mirrors and high liftgate. There's a ton of kids in my neighborhood, and while I usually back in the driveway, the wife pulls in.
I'm very tempted to keep the LX at this point. I feel like so much of the maintenance has been done, it drives great. I feel that I won't be able to buy one this nice for this money when I decide I want one again. My wife is definitely more inclined to see this sold. This has just turned into...

Check engine light is now off. It was upstream o2 sensor, replaced with the correct Denso unit
So I bought this 1998 LX470 about 5 years ago. I've put a ton of work into it, with mostly Toyota or Denso parts. I've had it on Craigslist and facebook, and the responses I get are either people that aren't serious, or want to tear it down. I cringe when they ask about pictures of the...
I have used 87 pretty religiously, but have used 91 when towing and don't believe it helped at all. I probably would run 91 if I was driving in the mountains or pulling long hills.
Ok, so................ someone, anyone, correct me if I misspeak. Your LX should have an open front differential and a limited slip rear differential. While the differential in your transfer case automatically locks in 4 low, it is selectable in 4 high. You should only engage the center diff...
I ordered mine from Kurt this morning, very courteous and professional. I work at a Jeep dealership, so I'll have one of the techs install these when I'm getting some other work done. So glad to have came across this thread.
As is being talked about elsewhere in the 100 forums, if you replace the front UCAs, not bad to throw this bracket in at the same time OME FK27. Moab disaster turned best experience. Grandpas Garage!!!! BUY THE BRACKET! and they're only $27
Not meant to hijack
Yeah, I was pretty ...I'll say dissappointed. They had a tech come talk to me and tell me it wasn't worth my time. I don't want to say the name of the place as I might need them in the future. If it's one of our brands at my dealership, we don't turn it away, at least as far as I know.
I'll throw my .02 in here. I bought my 98 LX470 in ( I think) May of 2016 with 172k. The ride seemed pretty good, but the AHC seemed weak and tired and wouldnt always stay in high, even at a crawl. As time went along it became a seesaw. The dealership I worked at (non Toyota or Lexus) wouldn't...
When I asked a Toyota mechanic about flushing the transmission for my '98 LX, the tech about came out of his skin. He told me "You NEVER flush this transmission. This is a 500,000 mile transmission and it has a drainplug for a reason. Drain 4 quarts, add 4 fresh and drive. Repeat every 12-24...
Before you replace anything, or even scan for codes, test the battery. If the battery is junk, then you need a new battery anyways. Low voltage fries modules, sensors, etc. No good comes from a crap battery.
