    Noise upon deceleration... differential problem?

@Chadk15 : I've been meaning to post the closure on this item so thanks for reaching out. The conclusion in my previous post that the failure was inside the front diff turned out to be correct. After removing the diff and opening it up, I found two of the teeth on the ring gear had broken off...

    Noise upon deceleration... differential problem?

Update: I repeated the test drive with the front drive shaft removed. This time the whirring sound was present during all conditions (acceleration, coasting, braking). The sound was the same as before, woo-woo-woo, and as before, it was vehicle speed dependent (but not engine speed...

    Noise upon deceleration... differential problem?

I botched one of the u-joint yokes when trying to replace the u-joints in the front drive shaft and as luck would have it, the part was on national backorder. I let the car sit and finally drove it again without the front drive shaft this week. The sound was now present regardless of driveline...

    Noise upon deceleration... differential problem?

My LX470 is still on the stock AHC suspension. We take it off road and utilize the “high” AHC setting often, but like @nissanh said, the front driveshaft should be a nearly a constant angle regardless of the AHC height because of the IFS, right?

    Noise upon deceleration... differential problem?

Good to know about the planetary gears! What do you mean by front diff being phased properly?

    Noise upon deceleration... differential problem?

Tried this today. Sound upon deceleration is unchanged whether OD is on or off. I ordered OEM u-joints for the front driveshaft. Will report back after I install them.

    Noise upon deceleration... differential problem?

You guys are giving me hope it's not a diff issue. :-) The sound with deceleration did go away with the front driveshaft removed, but it may have been replaced with a different sound. With the front driveshaft removed, I think I was hearing a significantly more faint version of the sound, but...

    Noise upon deceleration... differential problem?

Thanks for pointing that I out! I forgot to include in my list that I had inspected and regreased all of the u-joints when I removed the front and rear drive shafts. They all felt smooth and I didn't notice any play (tested by hand). I'll see if there is a more perceptive test I should do...

    Noise upon deceleration... differential problem?

Help needed with a 2001 LX470 with 116k miles that started making noise during deceleration. I've read through forums and have tried to check the possible causes for the noise, and I think I've more or less isolated the problem to the front differential. The sound seems characteristic of a...

Toyota part warranty voided if installed on LX470??

Thanks, @suprarx7nut ! 1. The dealer is okay selling the parts without a VIN. They just wanted me to be aware that they will not warranty the parts. 2. I loaded the shopping cart with identical items with McGeorge. McGeorge came in $20 cheaper (total cost of parts around $1,600), but I...

Toyota part warranty voided if installed on LX470??

Yes, ordering online and installing myself. They’re still saying the VIN is required if a warranty claim for the part is needed: “I spoke with my manager and he told me at the moment of summiting a warranty claim we need to provide a VIN and if the said VIN is for a Lexus they would deny the...

Toyota part warranty voided if installed on LX470??

Thanks, CruiserDan, that clarifies it a lot! Your response on #3 is what I need the dealer to understand. I’ll give it another go. I’m hoping they’ll figure it out because there’s a 10% sale at this dealer right now and getting my core back will be easier since they’re local.

Toyota part warranty voided if installed on LX470??

Here’s what the Toyota dealer is saying: 1) All parts have a 1-year warranty, unlimited miles 2) The warranties are linked to the vehicle’s VIN 3) The Toyota dealer cannot link parts to Lexus VINs so any warranty claim submitted to Toyota Corporate will be denied. Time to try another dealer...

Toyota part warranty voided if installed on LX470??

Thanks for the replies! Good to know about the 12 month warranty. Does the warranty continue if installed on a Lexus vehicle? Is that written down anywhere?

Toyota part warranty voided if installed on LX470??

The Toyota dealer tells me installing Toyota parts on my 2001 LX470 will void the warranty of the part even though the Toyota/Lexus part numbers are identical. This hasn't been an issue for me so far since most of the parts I've gotten haven't been too expensive, but now I'm getting a new CV...

Passenger side coolant drain plug access?

I just did my coolant flush last week and was able to access the PS drain using a couple wobble extensions on a 1/4" ratchet.

    Rack and Pinion leak

@2001LC , I'm trying to figure out how much AT-205 to add to the power steering (flushed with M1 ATF a few months ago). On the bottle, I see 8oz of AT-205 per 6 qt oil, which is consistent with your 1.33 oz per qt. The problem is I can't find the capacity of the power steering rack to complete...
