Here's my cat and dog story...we're now on Day 359 of no truce between our "new" dog and our two cats.
Probably the age difference is a big factor, dog < 3 yrs old, cats > 15 yrs old, which was not the case with previous dog.
At least we upgraded our pet barrier gate from the folding crate...
Yes, those beaches and coves are over rated...I will be sure to not do everything possible to retire there ;):p. If you look closely you'll see about 10 yrs of age progression in the photos. Gotta get our new dog up there!
Our last dog was supposed to be crate-trained but managed to get out of several of them. After his last break-out, photos below, we simply stopped crating out of fear that he would hurt himself, and he was fine free-roaming the house for the next 10 years before he passed...no damaged anything...
Great photos and lifestyle, please keep them coming!
I may actually have a chance to escape city life as my son is a 4th yr animal sciences major.

He sliced it open on something in the back yard in the process of wrecking a squirrel. Had to get it stapled shut, and kept protected with a booty for a couple more weeks once the staples were removed.
I had never heard of the breed before this, thanks for sharing. I enjoyed reading up on the breed on the google. They look a lot larger than their 45-50 lbs average size.
Police / military / "working" dogs have high drive and are often rewarded in their training / work with a tennis ball so this guy is probably extra excited about chasing after it. You can also do hide and seek with it, making him use his nose to get it instead of his legs. Might be better if he...
X3 on giving him more time. Don't be surprised if it takes weeks or months to adjust, especially if he's a rescue. Also try to get him around a monitored pack of other dogs, too, as its good therapy. If there is a good doggie daycare place near you that groups the dogs by their size or behavior...
