    FJ45 2H swap: which REAR motor/gearbox mount?

    In 2001 i put a H55 in 1981 fj40. I sourced a set of 60 series “L” hangers and they did not match the needed angle. Drilling a common 7x series mount in my opinion would be easier and CHEAPER. Of you are not doing a concours resto I doubt anyone will care. Still Toyota parts.

    J60 series brackets are at a different angle. A 70 series bracket from 1990’s would take a newer flat h55 mount and the weld on brackets to frame bolt from underneath and new holes can be drilled for main mount. 4 weld on brackets, two inside, two outside.

    Idiotic to replace the tensioner that often. The springs are often out of spec and should be replaced, but 100,000 miles for the tension pulley should be fine. 20,000 kilometers is nothing. Replacing the belt is most critical.

    You have "schmutz" in your timing belt area as high as the tensioner pulley. I would pull and replace your camshaft seal and timing belt and timing cover gasket. Oil + timing belt can mean engine death. An ordeal so consider swapping water pump while you are in there. Follow the FSM. I agree...

    Keep an eye on that starter. You should be able to get reman in US. The shell is near unobtanium for cast iron (ala 40/42 series). You could mine the copper and forge the steel to make a new one at $1355

    Green arrow is the port that goes away on side cover. Yellow arrows mark the 10mm plugs you do not need. Red circles indicate 3 of the 4 long bolts- the 17012 cover only uses two of these and two short bolts replace the long ones.

    To hell with going from r series to h series transmissions unless you can handle sheet metal, floor covering, tcase etc etc. the cost effective solution is switch the ring and pinions to 4.10’s or 3.90’s ( i have 3.90’s w 1hdt).

    Fuel lubes and cools the pump. Put in a return back to tank. A fairly large volume goes thru. Return should be 8mm at a minimum.

    Measure flange to flange and have your existing retubed to length and have universals replaced. 1,000 businesses coast to coast do this everyday.

    BEB are the rod end bearings which on 12 valve engines are replaced at same time (bolt are torque to yield, one time use).     What PM to knock out on used 1HD-FT?

    Oxalic acid wash the cooling syatem. Ideally pull the injection pump, replace the oil cooler cover with later version w/o the cooler line for acsd and pound a replacement freeze plug jn block for acsd I have written up a report. Of course, check the knuckles etc. as suggested above.
