    6.2/6.5 diesel

Did you do a search for 6.2 or 6.5? Yup, it's been done. I saw an FJ 40 at the Roundup in Katemcy a couple of years ago with a 6.2. I can't put up a pic because it's not in this computer.

    Diesel auto to diesel manual

I like many others are contemplating a diesel conversion. I've looked around for salvage Cummins engines and ususally see engines listed as being mated to an automatic transmission. Questions: How would you go about mating it to a manual tranny such as an NV4500? Would I be better off...

    Cleaning an HJ60 engine bay

pilotsareplanecrazy; Get a can of degreaser and go to a do-it-yourself carwash that has machines with a light setting. I've cleaned the 2F in my 60 that way and gotten good results. I don't know what part of town you're in, but if your're nearby, the carwash at Greenville Ave. and...

    Another seat question

I just put electric, leather Camry seats with lumbar support in my 60. They've been a huge upgrade in comfort. See my post in the FJ 60 section. They fit fine in a 60, but can't speak for the 70. I would imagine that any seat you find will need some modification to fit. I've done it twice...

    Anyone done the diesel conversion??

JVS; I just got back from Vancouver and a visit to G & S Cruiser parts. See my reply to a post dated today in the Chit Chat section titled "Diesel". I test drove an HJ 61 with a 13-BT / H55F combo, and it had real nice power. I was surpised that a 4 cylinder would be that nice. The HZ or...

Everything I Ever Learned About Importing

Go to the Natl. Highway Traffic Safety Adim. website www.nhtsa.dot.gov and find the form you need to import what they call a "nonconforming motor vehicle". There's a place on the form to check if the vehicle is 25 years old or more.

Everything I Ever Learned About Importing

I thought that the EPA Declaration of Compliance was the sticking point with importing a diesel under 21 years old. Are you saying they don't do any emissions testing for diesels? Or is it that everything you imported is more than 21 years old?

Importing under the 25 year rule into the U.S. Suggestions?

Riddler; How exactly would you bring a diesel Cruiser back to the U.S.? Would you or someone else drive it the Mexican border? Would you have it shipped to the U.S.? Or would you have it shipped to Canada first? Would you simply put it in a shipping container, or what? This is something...

Importing under the 25 year rule into the U.S. Suggestions?

Riddler; I went home last night and looked up the manufacturing dates of the vehicles you mentioned, and here's what I came up with: BJ 40, mid '74-'79; BJ 42 '82-'84; BJ 60 & HJ 60, mid '80-?; FJ 45, '61-'67; BJ 45 (couldn't find data. Invalid designation?) BJ 46, mid '82-'89; HJ61-V...

Importing under the 25 year rule into the U.S. Suggestions?

I don't have the "50th Anniversary of the Toyota Land Cruiser" book in front of me as I type this, but there's a chart in there that has the production dates of all Cruiser models. I've looked at it pretty closely and can tell you that we're about 1 year away from the first 60 series diesels...

    80 series diesel in California?

The increased cost of parts and service of non-USA vehicles has been covered in other posts, but reading the above about gray-market vehicles jogged my memory. I knew a guy whose wife had a BMW she got in Germany before they were married, and back in the good old days when there weren't so many...

    Understanding Import Cruiser Prices

" I think that an Onan diesel in a Landcruiser is a better fit for the US than the OEM motors only due to the availablity of whole motors, parts and mechanics who have actually worked on the motor before! (for those who don;t do their own work) It is a simple swap as the motor has a chevy 350...

New Owner 1983 BJ42 -- OMG and Thanks to Everybody

Congrats, Brendan! Now can you tell the rest of us how to bring a less than 25 year old diesel Cruiser into the U.S.? I may have missed an earlier post. If so, can you direct me to it? If you don't want to give away any secrets, I can understand that. But if you ever go into the import...

    non electronic diesels (diesel newbie)

When did diesel engines in L.C.s start getting complicated electronics? There's a guy in my club that says one of the later engines (he thinks the 12H-T) has basically one wire going to it, and that most of the later engines such as the 1HZ 1HD-T, etc. have electronic sensors and pumps. True?

If everything checks out, and I got some kind of approval from U.S. Customs in writing, I'd buy myself a plane ticket and fly to the U.K. to check it out. It may seem kind of extreme, but the $500 could be cheap compared to what you might lose if it turns out to be a scam or the vehicle is a...

Have him fax you a copy of the title. Then call the Dept. of Motor Vehicles in the state it's supposed to be registered in and ask them if it is indeed a legitimate title and if the vehicle is currently registered in that state under the name that appears on the title. Shouldn't be too hard to...
